Carpet odour from wee

My 3 year old has had occasional spillages on the carpet whilst using her potty (missed the protective covering as well). Despite my scrubbing the carpet numerous times by hand I can't get rid of the odour: would a carpet cleaner do the job better? It costs £25 per weekend to hire but it's only a small bedroom. Should I cut my losses and buy a different floor covering and if so what type?

Any suggestions would be most welcome.
