Iam extremely sorry for those who are unable to travel on businees or for pleasure, but I do wonder how long it will be before there is an onset of panic buying of food. When the vunerable and those in poor health will feel real difficulty .I don't think it will be that long before someone is trampled in a supermarket, and tempers rise for possession of a small sliced loaf. Far fetched I don't think so.

Why ?
We produce enough food in this country to keep us fed including plenty of bread .
If people can't exist without their mangos and green beans specially flown in from Kenya then they'll have to eat what there is .We produce plenty of food in this country .
I doubt anyone will starve .
Panic buying is just that .Someone starts a rumour and the whole country goes crazy .
Wait for one of the papers to print the headline "Will the volcano ash problem cause panic buying?"

This will cause panic buying!
Good news for my niece who is a supply teacher. There should be plenty of work for her, as there are loads of teachers who can't get home, apparently.
It said in the paper we might soon run out of asparagus - what shall become of us?????

omg---no asparagus -- is there no end to the pain!!!!
Aircraft designers had better design the engines to accomadate this new danger?
Omg... we are knee deep in asparagus here. Several different types of the stuff.

:-)
I can't see panic buying unless people are made to panic. We can survive on quite a lot of home grown stuff (although we do rely on imports, they come by sea - most of the basic stuff in the supermarkets comes by lorry not air). Perhaps the local fruit growers might actually get to sell their fruit this year, instead of ploughing it back because the supermarkets could buy their hard-skinned plums cheaper from Spain than buying Victorias locally. Fruit and veg will be available in season again.
