I think that this is the fault of the ballot.

if they had stuck to the 1 question the right to recognise the First Nation it would probably have succeeded.

unfortunately a no vote doesn't look positive for the country!

Yes, a bit of a watershed moment in Australias history and one which doesn't, on the face of it, reflect very well on the 'settlers'.
Maybe one of our Aussi members can enlighten us as to the reasoning behind the success of the vote?

I'm not sure I understand this entirely, but I can't see how creating division for any reason based on race can be a good thing.

I think the issue was not the recognition of the First Nation but the division of the 'parliament'

had they carried out 2 separate votes the recognition would have gone ahead and the parliament would have failed, which even most of the First Nations leaders were content to see.

I can only assume (dangerous) that this is the unintended result of a badly worded referendum.

(no Zacs......don't state the obvious. Resist. Resist)

Maybe looking positive doesn't pop up on their radar, leaving it to others to fret about it.

A very confusing campaign with all sorts of under currents and people changing their minds frequently, depending on whose ideas they listened to.

not sure where we go from here 🤔

So, the convicts won.

Not overly surprised. The way forward is surely integration and thus no need to give subsections of society special rights & consideration that the rest don't have. Join together as one, or choose to remain divided with no significant change for the foreseeable future.
