oh it say Will ODT - what does that mean
Open Document Text but I have no idea what you have to do, sorry
Question Author
I am too tired but do think I will have to type it up again tomorrow as I have omitted two recipients. Thank God I had a printed copy
Check that you've not simply added in a blank page at the start of the document. Look at the bottom left of the screen to see whether it says "Page 1 of 1" or, say, "Page 1 of 4". If there's more than one page shown, try scrolling down to view the other pages.

Otherwise, unfortunately, it does indeed look as if you've somehow managed to delete all of the text within the document.
Question Author
thanks Chris - did scroll - will have to type it up tomorrow.
hichris - does ODT automatically back up? - Bill Gates' ghastly product does ( as wkb I think)
JJ, you really need to have a will written up by a local solicitor who can talk you through all the implications and ramifications of making a mistake, it’s costly but, in my opinion, we’ll worth it. It saves any disputes and arguments from your beneficiaries. Trust me, I know.
Question Author
well I am waiting for my cartridge to arrive - so the good thing is I only have about about 6 lines on the second page ie signatures etc - so I will be able to photo copy them

Chris will that be ok - having a second page to the overall will - it will be just signatures only.
Question Author
no - typed up my own will - it'll do rightly
Question Author
well I copied word for word from another will - it should be ok. Beneficiaries won't be arguing I can guarantee that.
No it won’t, JJ. Seriously, your handing a whole lot of problems to your beneficiaries which they will be trying to deal with at a time of great sadness and stress.
Have you had it witnessed by a qualified Solicitor?
Question Author
no Zacs - they won't be that bad - I am the lady of the house - my beneficiaries will never ever argue - I have been very good to them all over the years so they will not argue.

Beneficiaries have received a lot of money themselves - did I argue - not in a million years.
Question Author
no I am the qualified solicitor - apart from my sister who is older than me - the beneficiaries will be absolutely ecstatic cos they don't know
JJ I wholeheartedly agree with Zacsmaster. I probably see 3 wills a month that someone has done at home and made an error that costs money to sort out. It's not expensive, in any event it will be far cheaper than sorting out a mistake later.
Question Author
Barmaid - when the mistake happens I won't be around - I'll be 6 feet under
Question Author
like my poor mother - who left a will but hadn't a halfpenny to her name. I had to bury her and pay an expensive wake cos in her day - we waked in the house and drink and food was a plenty.
Mine won't :-(
Try a file recovery programme (installed on a different drive) to check if you can find an older copy. Some of the better ones can even find text in areas marked unused, perhaps letting you piece it together.

Did you print it out somewhere ? An OCR programme may be able to put a decent electronic copy together.
If someone had left you something in their will but an error either meant you didn't get it or it took ages and money to rectify that error, how would you feel?
