It will take more than a single term to deal with police attitudes to crimes against women alone. It will take generations to change the attitudes of some men, or for those who commit violent crimes against women to be either jailed or die of old age, it will take even longer for some cultures to embrace the concept that females are equal members of society so while it sounds good, it ain't gonna happen.

That is Labour's way, not to mention opening borders to all and sundry because to try and stop it is apparently inhuman, bigoted and verging on Naziism.

You might as well say you are going to 'halve underage drinking', or 'halve illegal drug use', or 'halve people not signalling on roundabouts'.
How exactly is that going to be quantified?
And how, since each parliamentary term does not last a decade, is Mr Starmer going to see through his 'promise', unless he assumes winning more than one term, which is colossal arrogance of the first degree.

Reducing violence, any violence, depends on education, and changing attitudes, and given every successive government in the last forty years' inability to do anything with education but use it as a potential vote-winning tool - 'Parent Power anyone? - then his 'promise' is even more baseless than usual.

That does somewhat shift the goalposts I feel.
On the basis of the detail you have given, Labour are not going to 'halve violence against women' at all.
What they are offering is double the detection rate of such crimes, which is not the same thing at all.
Bringing perpetrators to justice is an admirable notion, but it does nothing to address the root causes of violence, which are cultural, not statistical.
Looking at addressing the causes would move towards actually stopping the violence before it occurs, which is entirely different from successfully punishing it after it has happened.
Something of a cart and horse interface going on here.
Not for the first time, a banner headline shouted in the media, promises something that it not possible to deliver.
A little early to be looking for votes by offering jam tomorrow, Keir, maybe wait until nearer the election, you might have your ideas thought through by then.

The bean counters will be well employed, what with this and the preposterous "net zero" nonsense (which counts burning 7m tons of freshly felled timber annually as "sustainable") they will have lots to do. I imagine even now, Labour's advisors are working on ways to define how hard a woman has to be punched in the face before it counts as "violence".
