Wishing all my Muslim friends a peaceful month of Ramadan. Remember being in Albania during this time and it was so peaceful.

Sadly it seems someone on the Santadan thread is not very keen on this??!!
Well I'm all in favour!
I’m sure most of us appreciate your post and sentiments Maggie .
I remember being in Cairo during Ramadan. Come sunset my colleague and I decided to go to the hotel buffet where the locals were eating their Ramadan breakfast. The waiting staff tried their best to farm us outside and clearly didn't want us in there (and yes, we were appropriately dressed) We flatly refused and were reluctantly allowed inside. I think they picked on the wrong people.

237SJ this says more about you than it does about them. It's called respect.
237SJ, I was confused by folk having breakfast at sunset but I take it you meant folk were breaking their fast.

Would you not accept that those breaking their fast were likely to have been in more need of the food on offer than you and your colleague?
Corby, it was a hotel dining room. SJ and her friend were paying guests. Respect works both ways - or it's supposed to. Perhaps if the hotel wanted to keep the other diners separate they should have provided another room for them.
I think it is fitr
which is correct - break the fast or first meal

I dunno why the Cairenes treated you like that. I was booted off ( Alphaville nowhere special) a fundamentalist Christian table before I cd say - but I read the NY in Greek !
Perhaps they knew and that was why ! hur hur hur
The waiting staff tried their best to farm us outside and clearly didn't want us in there (and yes, we were appropriately dressed)

O god it is not the only time that you have paid for a service, and they dont want to give it- wrong kind of whatever
'SJ and her friend were paying guests' It doesn't actually say it was the hotel they were staying at, it says 'the hotel buffet where the locals were eating their Ramadan breakfast'. Clarification required.
that those breaking their fast were likely to have been in more need of the food on offer
erm no it doesnt work like that
that is more dua' - wiki says saqada ( er and this is fitr )

it is a meal with religious significance but that shouldnt mean you exclude those from the meal....( see above with fundamentalist table)
