I bought a carton of Ribena (regular, not the no added sugar one) the other day and it didn't taste like how I remember Ribena tasting years ago. It tasted like it was watered down and had sweeteners added. Not buying that again. Don't know if the diluting bottle tastes the same and if there's some regulation thing going on with the ingredients.

What stuff have you noticed that doesn't taste the same as it did years ago?

The purple ones in a box of Quality Street. Half the size too … unless they just looked bigger before because I was little.
The trouble is that you've no way of knowing whether the flavour has changed, you've remembered it wrongly or your taste buds are jiggered.
It's got sweeteners added (rather than sugar) because they can sell it cheaper, due to the recent "sugar tax".
I never buy ready-to-drink stuff like this- an expensive way of buying water imo.
Bottle of Coke. Then I went to India, and low and behold. Just like it used to taste years ago. They’ve obviously tampered with the recipe for compliance with UK rules.
There was some kind of warning not to drink Ribena recently.
I think that was in the US so might be different here.
That was to do with sweeteners. Probably mixed up my stories.

I didn't think Ribena was sold in the US.
Fish & Chips (when it was wrapped in newspaper)
Did we have cartons of Ribena years ago? I can only remember it coming in a big bottle to be diluted at home.
Question Author
Yes Barry, I remember getting them in the 90s.
I hope not, tigger. Like I say, I've probably mixed a couple of stories up.
Most things. Especially if untried for years. Most lack flavour.

Was amazed at how awful Southern Comfort tasted when I tried it about a year ago.
tigger, the 90s is yesterday to me. Years ago is pre 60s :D

I think there's some sort of issue with blackcurrants in the US and the plant isn't grown there.

That's before my time, Barry. I'm an early 70s baby! ;o)
I find eggs don't have much flavour anymore. Even the ones I`ve picked up at farm gates. Maybe my tastebuds have become dulled over the years but I ate scrambled eggs at someones' house in the States last year and they tasted just like I remember they used to taste here.
Question Author
I agree about eggs. You can definitely taste the difference when abroad and the same with cucumbers and tomatoes.
I've tried things I used to love when I was a kid and thought they were horrible. Like Angel Delight. Different taste buds.
I was going to say, did you just mean products that have changed? But we wouldn't really know. ;)
I was thinking the packaging museum in London would be useful but of course it wouldn't. Ingredients weren't listed years ago in the same way they are today, so impossible to compare
