Sorry, I wasn't sure where to post this.
Do you know what you pay for gas and electric in a month ( average ) and do you ever use the compare prices websites?
Any recommendations ?
TIA.

i use uswitch. We pay about 60£ per month for gas and electric (each)
i can also recommend octopus energy
Yes £20 each per month average & compare every time contract is up for renewal. If savings are only a few pounds (which seems to be the case recently) I don't bother switching.
yes and every time my current deal runs out. I'm with Octopus at the mo.

Mine is in between at &50.
I just feel I'm paying a lot more than I used to, but I suppose I did spend a lot of time shielding and even now, I don't seem to go out as often as I used to.
energy cap has been removed so you will probably find you are paying more come october anyway
I compare and switch every year - difficult to get a recommendation because different areas have different deals.
Use three different comparison sites to get the best deal
I signed up the the cheapo energy club on the Money Saving Expert site. They email me when a cheaper offer comes up, no matter at what point the contract, for me to consider.
//energy cap has been removed so you will probably find you are paying more come october anyway//

Only if you are on your supplier's standard variable tariff. If you have a fixed rate contract it will remain fixed until it expires.

Quite honestly anybody paying at the supplier's standard variable rate wants their bumps felt. It is no bother taking out a fixed rate contract.
jesus what ever you do, dont use British Gas - they are truly truly crap
Question Author
No PP. I'm with E-on, and I was trying to find out which tariff I'm on, but their website was down.
We use Bulb and I pay £80 per month, electric only . I'm £140 in credit at the moment but that will fizzle through the winter. I find them easy to deal with and they have a very user friendly web-site.
Question Author
Hi APG not seen you for a while.
I won't do direct credit as I like to know exactly what's happening with my money so I prefer to pay them when I get my bill.
£80 seems a lot for just electric, but you probably live in a much bigger place than I do.
Sometimes I just have to accept that prices rise and pay up.
Question Author
It seems I'm on E-ON Energy plan assist which is £914.27.
I could change to Fix 2year v 14 which is £886.66.
Don't know if this is if you pay by DD though.
Perhaps I should call them to find out more.
//Quite honestly anybody paying at the supplier's standard variable rate wants their bumps felt.//

My renewal with Shell came up cheaper with their standard variable rate & if they up they charge I can switch to a fixed rate or move to another supplier with no penalty.
Barsel, you are choosing to pay more for your energy by refusing to pay by direct debit. I pay by DD and always know what is happening with my money. I'm usually in debit and the law requires that notice is given before the amount of the DD is increased.
Your choice but you are severely limiting your options.
I'm with BG. No problems.

I was with Eon, who were absolutely hopeless when admin problems needed sorting.
I'm with Octopus. We pay £105.50 per month for both gas and electric at the moment.
Question Author
Caran, that seems a lot. Is that monthly or quarterly?
Question Author
barry, how much would I save in a year if I paid by DD?
Impossible to say, Barsel mainly because I don't know how much you are paying; I don't know where you live and I don't know how much gas and electricity you use.
Please don't tell me :D

I do know that you will have a lot more choices if you do pay by DD but I would say at least 10% per year, probably much more.

Do your homework with the comparison sites.
