Is there any point at all in contributing an answer beginning 'as already stated' or 'as so-and-so said already' other than bumping up figures on your profile?

well you might have something to add as well.....I often do that if I am answering a question about illness.....also if someone is asking for an opinion of what they should do, it can be helpful for them to see that a majority agree that such and such is the right decision.

I often use such expressions to emphasise that I am not claiming the information is mine but just reinforcing the opinion/information in the earlier post.

Good morning douglas......LOL.....I sympathise with your point of view, but AB is a "community", a lifestyle which performs many a function for many people for various reasons encapsulating many categories of life and as such needs a hierarchy of some sort e.g chiefs and Indians, corporals and officers........got the picture?
With AB these folks often and mainly qualify by becoming high profile by answering any or all section threads whether needed or not......and periodically throughout the year their performances are publicised by much trumpeting ...e.g best answers, numbers of posts in various sections and so on.
They need this (for various reasons) and AB provides the medium for this and by and large, although "irritating" to many (including myself), is harmless.
You're point is well taken, but it is a matter of "get used to it" cus it ain't gonna change"

why judge an answer on its beginning? I'll often start an answer that way but go on to add something new.

What Naomi said :-). It is possible for people to agree with each other on occasions and very, very often, somebody else will have put it much better than I could. Have never given a passing thought to "profile statistics". What difference do they make?

I'm off your main point first Douglas, so sorry for that - however I disagree that people 'need' the trumpeting threads Sqad refers to.

I imagine many cringe at them.

Back to the crux, I will often agree if I'm late on a thread and add extra if needs be, what good is canvassing opinion if you only get one or two?
