Ok, I'll join the party. The correct way, of course, is to slice the big end off with a knife. I know this now I'm an adult.
I haven't eaten a boiled egg for at least 25 years, though. Throughout my childhood I bashed the little end with a teaspoon, somehow got all the bashed bits out of the yolk and carefully got the insides out.
It's turning into the Daily Mail where there is a 'correct' way to do everything! Who will finally decide on the 'correct' way to open a boiled egg? The 'correct' way is the way you do it, surely.
[I did a lick and stick from the other post, cant have a Notlobian feeling overlooked]
Ha ha what a question. When I was in a recovery home after an illness I was the only one whacking my egg open with a knife. The others were gently tapping the top and then picking off the bits of shell, some with great difficulty. After a few weeks the man sitting across from me decided to try my way and after a couple of false starts guillotined his egg and whoosh.....yolk all over the place. The poor man had got probably the only soft boiled egg in the breakfast room. Not to laugh was definitely an exercise in self control.
Needless to say he returned to his tapping and stubborn old me kept on with my way.....offering up a quick prayer before decapitation that it wouldn't be soft boiled. :-))
