Good Morning Early Birds!

Saturday. It's all gloomy and overcast this morning. I'm in the visitor Centre at Saul Junction all day, so I hope it clears up a bit, it's going to be quiet and boring else.
The Solstice Walk went very well as always. about 400 people and about 60 dogs went walkies, most of them stopping en route at Winstone's Ice Cream shop at their factory. Food and drink was enjoyed at the Hospice on their return. I got home about midnight. A very enjoyable evening.
Tiggy was out and about when I got home, so I put his supper out before I went to bed. It's gone this morning.

I'm glad that the walk went well. As I've read your previous posts, I know that 'the Hospice' means exactly that. However I'm reminded of my student days when freshers were surprised to hear how often people had to visit 'the Nurse' until they realised that it meant the Nursery Tavern ;-)
I won't be around long because I'm tired and in need of some kip (and the bottle's nearly empty!). I'd have retired some time ago if it wasn't for the fact that I don't want to disturb the cat on my knee. (I'll also sleep better if his mum turns up; I've not seen her since Thursday but I'm not too worried yet because she likes to be outside when the weather's fine and I could easily have missed her popping in for a meal).
The weather, of course, is very important today - not here in Suffolk but up in Durham. (If you're a cricket fan that should need no further explanation!).

Yes, it was a good evening and I was pleased to be part of it.
Sound like said bottle was enjoyed, as it should be. I shall do some quality control on one when I get home this evening, after I've taken my mate home to Thornbury. He can no longer drive because of eyesight problems, so I go to pick him up, otherwise he wouldn't be able to do his bit any more.
I hope the wee one's mum is OK. cats will do as they please. All the dogs on the walk last night had a lovely time of it. Minchinhampton common is beautiful, being high up it had some magnificent views over the surrounding countryside.

arf arf arf. There are some good eateries around the area. The Stables Cafe is at the junction, so named because it was the stables for the horses back in the days of horse drawn boats. They have a varied and delightful menu. I often have breakfast there when I'm on duty. The owner's mum went to school with my Vera, so we get on well.
Well that cats hasn't moved off my knee yet, so I'm still here.
Your reference to driving, and your friend's visual handicap, reminds me of a guy I knew (about 20 years ago) who drank in the pub where I worked. He'd been to the USA to visit his brother and shared the driving with him on long, straight desert roads across several states. Unfortunately he forgot about the low speed limits in the States and got pulled over and hauled before the local court. He didn't really mind the small fine though because if he'd have been caught speeding in this country they might have found out (which they didn't in the States) that:
(a) he'd never held a driving licence ;
(b) he'd never had any driving lessons ; and
(c) he was registered blind.

Some of the places are indeed pricey, but there are some that are not so greedy. At the Stables, a huge breakfast, including a mug of tea, is £6. Good value. Some of the pubs along the river bank can be a bit on the dear side, especially when there is a 5 star bore on the river. That is a sight to see! People come from all over the world to see it, and surf it, riding the wave.

I noticed that the Old Passage's 'Bore Breakfasts' (at £25 per head) on 29th September and 29h October are already sold out. I wonder how far ahead you have to book to be sure of getting in?

good morning, boaty, chris and humpy, okay I will say it where is everyone ? Boaty glad all went ell for your walk and it stayed dry, chris you softy old cat lover I would have done the humpy hope it dpesnt rain on your parade. the highlight of my day will be a trip to B&Q with b-in-law as the cap has broken on the strimmer and obviously he doesn't trust me to get the right part lol !a man of few words we will sit in silence on the way there & back !

It is indeed an event I'm pleased to be a small part of. It raises a lot of money for the hospice, enabling them to continue the wonderful job they do. The Hospice at Home service is a brilliant innovation. It means that the patient will be at home with their family until the end, with a dedicated nurse in attendance, even living in with the family if required. She/he will also be able to advise and get help with all that follows, the paperwork involved can be a challenge, when people really don't need it. The nurse will be able to help with that too.
The National Trust, who own the common, want to charge charities £1 a head for adults and 50p a head for children to walk on the common. We are of course very much against that.
