Its not the 1st time oldham have caused contraversey. Remember Lee Hughes, he was banged up after a hit&run case, done his time, and when he got out, signed for Oldham.

maybe they should rename themselves Oldlag. Given that his sentence isn't over yet, will he actually be playing for them?
Clearly, I have no time for rapists, but if he'd been a street-cleaner, forester or any one of a number of other tradesmen, would there have been so much hassle about him continuing in the job for which he has the necessary skills?
The "role model" notion is, I believe, nonsense. Sure, little boys admire and look up to football players, but surely only as regards their footballing skills. I don't recall a spate of 14-year old schoolboys becoming alcoholics because George Best liked a dram or two!
This man has served his time and should not be punished again by denying him from following his profession.IMO
he hasn't served his time, he is out on license he is only halfway through
He also continues to protest his innocence. He is unrepentant.

I'd be very surprised if Evans' appeal failed. Stupid boy, yes. Rapist, no. IMHO
Fans being fickle, as long as he performs and scores/assists goals, they will put aside any moral issue. If all home fans refuse to go to the game, perhaps this may change tings.
Haven't "Nando's" just pulled sponsorship.

JJ - Spot on IMO

or Oldham Bangers ?

yeah but if he were a solicitor, judge, doctor then there would be
or probation officer or jailer or social worker

so it is relevant to ask which set of jobs a progessional footballer belongs to
Can he get a fair appeal after MPs have joined in his condemnation?
Appeals are against points of law......not public opinion.

I think, in the long run, Oldham will come to regret their decision.
// Can he get a fair appeal after MPs have joined in his condemnation? //

yes - it is very rare that courts throw out cases as a result of publicity

I have never heard them say they cant hear an appeal for this reason - judges are so wise you see - they can ignore the naughty bits in a case .....
Wow. My post got deleted for mentioning the other side to the legal case?

It's a good job whoever pulled it doesn't sit in the Court of Appeal !

No possibility of "let's hear both sides of the argument" here, then!
Yes, it would be 'nice' to think that judges are above all the, erm, can't think what to call it. (common herd? or is that bad)
I was with you there JJ.
How come you are unable to discuss the other side of the case? The possibility that a foolish drunk young girl has put herself in a vunerable position, regretted it, and made the whole Rape thing up? Guilty/not guilty we all have an opinion, yes?
We don't have to hear 'both sides', JJ.

Until such a time as he successfully appeals his conviction, he remains a Rapist. The 'culpability' of his victim has been debated at length here on AB and os not pertinent to this particular discussion.
*not os.....is.
