I have just been pottering about in the kitchen with the door open and Tilly was outside.. I heard her barking at the fence and went out to fetch her in, stopping for a moment to put mygarden shoes on.

When I went out, Tilly was hanging from a lower 'stub' a Hawthorne bush. The D ring on her collar had got caught and she was struggling, with her legs off the ground, to free herself. I managed to lift her off and she fell to the ground. She lay there for about 30 seconds, gasping, then got to her feet and shuffled off.

I have now taken her collar off. God, that has really shaken me.

Sit down and have a nice cup of tea. I know, from experience, how you feel and it is really scary. She will be shaken too but I'm sure she will be fine. Give her a cuddle and don't worry.
Close call, hope she's all ok.

One of the reasons I never allowed collars on my cats or my dog when she was at home.

Thank you, quizzkid. I'm just so glad that I was around.
I'm with Slack, I never put a collar on the hound unless he's going for a walk.

Glad you got to Tilly in time and that she's ok :)

Alice, I can see the sense in that. Thank you, too. The collar will now only go on when we go out.
hope you and she are ok Tilly, glad you spotted her so quickly.

I'm still a bit shaken but she seems ok, now. I never let my dogs bark outside in the garden. I always go out and tell them to stop . It's a good job too.
Glad she's ok, never have collars on mind only all in one collar and lead when they go out. However, its not always good to go into the garden to stop them barking(!) - last week I did that and came back in to find the grill on fire, took me ages to put it out as it spread to surrounding area and caused lots of smoke damage to my kitchen!
Also never leave any form of chain collar on any dog at any time - they can get caught on so many things and even a puppy in a cage died recently when it got its collar caught on the catch.
OH goodness I am glad she is okay. Mine never wear their collars in the house.

Lankeela, I am sorry to hear about your kitchen. That was a lucky escape!

I have had dogs for thirty five years and all of them have worn collars at all times, without any mishap. However, after today, I will never put a collar on another dog unless we are going out for a walk. I can't believe what happened.

Thanks to all who responded, for your kind words. I guess today was Tilly's unlucky and lucky day. Uuuuuugggghhhhh!
Pleased to hear you are both ok after your traumatic day.
That must have been very scary for you both. I am glad that Tilly is Ok.
Tilly, I've only just seen this, thank heavens you were in time
I'm glad she's ok. Both of you need a stiff drink x
Jaysus, has Psybbo say's good job you were there.
Question Author
Pixie, she's had water, I had tea. We are both fine now, I think. I can't stop thinking about it, though.

As sibs has said, thank heaven I was in time.
Question Author
Indeed, Tony. She's just got over being really poorly and then this happens.
Let's hope things improve for the little thing.
Let's hope things improve for the little thing.

Yes, fingers crossed, Yilly.
Question Author
Thanks again to everyone. I am going to try to stop thinking about it now.
