Okay.. true story. You visit a colleague's house. You don't know them very well. You have a very heavy period. You accidentally get blood on the BASE of the loo roll. ie- the flat bit, so it is actually on the edge of pretty much every sheet. There is only one loo roll in the toilet (downstairs). You can either leave it there or steal it. If you steal it, you leave the loo with no loo roll, and you have to carry it around in your bag, which may be obvious. You are the only guest other than one male friend.

taken it with me
I would have had a discreet word with the host and apologised (assuming they were female) Don`t know what I would have done if it was a man
I'd have dropped it down the loo and told him a new roll was needed....

It was a man. Me, a man and a male friend. That's all, in the house.
similar to craft I'd have rinsed it off and then apologised for dropping the roll in the loo
How on earth did you manage that??? (actually, it's the sort of thing that would happen to me, probably why no one invites me to their homes ;) )
A female friend experienced a sudden flood while sitting on a sofa and it went through her clothing and onto the sofa - no question of any sort of cover-up and she felt absolutely awful. She was with a new boyfriend in his shared university flat - everyone was very understanding although she obviously felt intensely embarrassed. I don't recall it ever having been mentioned again although when I was at the flat some days/weeks after this I did notice a mark on the sofa. This was some 45 years ago or so.
I think I'd have said that I'd had an accident with the loo roll so I'd had to bin it, and asked for another one. Most blokes never see all this side of it... so unless you were going to get your nail scissors and trim every sheet, I don't know what else you could have done.

The house was being done up- there was no bin in the loo. Just a loo and basin. And one loo roll. karen- I have no idea!! I guess it was just so heavy and gross that some of it got on my hand, whilst I was holding the loo roll!
Scarlett - you are taking me back to the days when I was like that (sorry chaps) but it used to get everywhere..... no rhyme or reason.
I'd have bagged it up and thrown it out and told the host "terribly sorry old chap, but I've accidentally menstruated onto your last remaining bogroll, shall I go to the cornershop and buy a replacement ?"
Hopefully ... if the floor was a bit grubby .. you would have rubbed the whole roll edge on the floor, thereby hiding the marks and left it there.
You're right AP, but it's hugely embarrassing at the time.

I would have accidentally on purpose dropped the loo roll down the toilet, then informed the gent that he needed a new one as that one was soaked through.
I think i would have been honest and told the host what had happened - i dont see any point in trying to hide it...
Thank you wyz - that is nice to hear.

Absolutely Wyz - totally agree. Good to see you btw, Hope you are fine and dandy!

Yes but this was a man I first met 20 years ago, and now we are both colleagues. I was meeting him at his house but we were due to go on from there- literally just time for a wee and then out the door.
