How is it possible to starve a seven year old child to death in Britain today with no one noticing anything?

Because she was also kept prisoner in the home

But surely she would have been missed at school?
Did she go to school? They don't sound like the sort of parents that would send thier child to school.
It's odd, these cases of child abuse, neglct and murder that appear to have spring up recently all seem to involve the mother....and a partner.

You're probably right squarebear. She probably hadn't been registered with a school. It's cases like this when I long for the days of my childhood when I knew all my neighbours and everyone kept an eye on everyone else. So sad!
Indeed it is. Many people nowadays don't even know who is living next door to them. Sad times.

BOO, I wonder what that says about the changing role of women in our society? Are women becoming less caring and protective and psychologically becoming more 'masculine' in their approach to life.
I'm old enough to remember when you knew everyone in your street or neighbourhood. The same cannot be said nowadays, and therein lies part of the problem. How many of us can claim today to know most of their neighbours? There are even people living next door to one another who don't know each others names let alone anything else.

It's a sad indictment of today's society that too many are caught up in their own busy lives and schedules that they are totally unaware of what's going on through the wall.

I'm far from being a "nosey neighbour" but I happen to know all my immediate neighbours by their first names, and their children too. I don't go out of my way to do so, I just make the effort to chat when I see them. That may sound odd, but how many of us merely nod to one another without actually knowing what kind of person it is we're nodding to? Some people actually seem to be intimidated by this fear of familiarity with other human beings.

Thankfully I have wonderful neighbours with lovely kids, however if I knew that something dreadful was going on I know that I would inform the relevant authorities, especially if it were a child involved.

Much as I hate Social services and the old bill I'm afraid I cant agree that they should and can know everything.

The fact we think they should lies in our blame culture festered by scum lawyers such as Tony Blair and his missus who want to make a fast buck of misery.

Its sad it should happen but all part of the society that has sadly made us continually inverted due to lack of discipline and law and order. Noo labour have alot to answer for.
I agree with Parffin - I guess it's probably easier now than ever before. Time was when all us kids were in and out of each others houses and everyone was a neighbour in the true sense of the word - i'm not yet 40 btw, not that long ago. Now who knows who's living nearby?
The girl did go to school but they took her out and refused entry to both school officials AND the police.

Surely the police have the right to demand entry to any house if they suspect a crime is being committed.

Anyway, if you allow unrestricted immigration from third world countries you eventually drag the country down to third world standards.

I can't find the reference to the father's country of origin in the BBC article.

Did you see what it was in another news site?
