It is reported that this person is to be charged with manslaughter, why is this not murder?

/// The prosecutor told the jury: 'She made no call for assistance - for a doctor or an ambulance.
'What did she do? Within hours she was ordering a pizza. So, no call for assistance but a call, or even calls, for pizza. ///

/// 'Moreover, she thereafter continued to claim child benefit in respect of her dead son.' ///

/// Mr Greaney said the jury will have to consider whether the pizza and the child benefit matters 'demonstrate anything about her attitude towards Hamzah'. ///

I wouldn't have thought there would be too much of a problem there.

While I am not getting into the debate about the sentence in this case, how on earth if she was unemployed could she afford drugs and reportedly drank 1 litre of vodka per day,and also how could she live in what must have been an awful stench!
I might be mistaken but I'm sure it's happened in some cases. From wiki:

"In England and Wales, the usual practice is to prefer a charge of murder, with the judge or defence able to introduce manslaughter as an option (see lesser included offence)."

I'm unsure there is a trend towards more and more horrific cases. Throughout our time here, there have been folk whose mind fails to work well and then anything can happen. Probably the case that the media's reported some recently.
Is she even sane? It must be difficult to tell, especially with drink and drugs involved.
Another case of unbelievable cruelty to a small child. As this horrible woman appeared not to be capable of raising a child, what with her drug and alcohol addiction, why was this little boy allowed to remain in her care ?

Are we going to have to wait a few months for another Daniel Pelka enquiry, to tell us that nobody noticed anything was wrong and therefore didn't do anything ?

Lets start with this woman's neighbours...didn't they question where this child had disappeared to ?

These cases make me so bl**dy angry !
The woman is pure scum and every possible book should be thrown at her and indeed locked up until at least past child bearing age. But I doubt it will happen.

On the other hand I would really like to know where the SS were. Surely a druggie alcoholic must have come to the authorities attention.

As for the neighbors they were probably crack heads too.

but it all does beggar belief, it also make me very angry to Mickey.
It would appear that yet again, 'lessons are NOT being learned and people are NOT doing their jobs:

Doubtless there will be a serious case review after the trial, particularly into the actions of West Yorkshire Police, or more specifically the inactions.
