I wonder what would be said, if anyone tried to ban the Notting Hill Carnival or the London Gay Pride Parade, for example.

In protest the electorate should refuse to pay their council taxes to barmy Labour-controlled Sandwell council in West Bromwich.

It's ironic that most people who live in West Bromwich, are mainly good hard working class people, who for generation after generation have voted Labour.

I wonder now, if they still hold them in such high esteem? Because they no longer represent the white English peoples of this country.

Sandwell Council hasn't banned the parade - it can still go ahead.

Do you actually read past the headline?
In recent years, the BNP have hijacked this parade. If the BNP want to parade on St Georges day, then let them, just don't expect the council tax payer to foot the bill.

Well, Notting Hill Carnival is under threat due to perception that there has been an escalation in violence. This one hasn't been banned, but likewise the authorities are duty bound to look into it if the parade attracts violence.

I've never seen violence at Pride mind. I saw a rather sad bunch of men, cordoned off with solemnly raised Nazi salutes, but even they couldn't muster up a bit of violence

Ethel, I have always respected you for both your views and your IT skills, but why do you have to be so rude?

I was quite aware that Sandwell council has not banned the St George's parade, only withdrawn their support (funds) for it, thus making it almost impossible for it to go ahead.

Any reference made to banning in my post was appertaining to Notting Hill Carnival or the London Gay Pride Parade or such.

Being such a stickler for accuracy and fact, I am most surprised that you also did not realise this.

Hard, working-class people?

or

Hard-working, class people?
As for 'banning', I'm surprised you don't understand the use of implication, AOG.
So you are comparing Sandwell Council withdrawing tax payers money to pay for the parade but still allowing it to go ahead, with a complete ban on Notting Hill or Gay Pride carnivals?

You are comparing two different things.

You are also implying that St George's Day is for white people, and not for all the people that live in England.

Sandwell Council has withdrawn funds because of the BNP and National Front elements that have used this parade to cause problems. Maybe they think that St. George's Day is exclusively white too. If that is what you believe, why should the large amount of non-whites living in Sandwell help to fund the parade?

Notting Hill Carnival and Gay Pride are self financed - the comparison is a little off key.

The organisers should absolutely be applauded for trying to "reclaim the Saint George Cross from Right-wingers and make it a source of pride for all".

If the BNP have unfortunately slimed their way into the proceedings, it would've been better to reach to non-white communities and say, "This is <u<>your day too. Let's march together and do what we can to exclude the BNP scum who are trying to hijack this day".

An opportunity missed I'm afraid.

Ethel

No apologise for your rudeness I see.

You are comparing two different things.

I do not consider them to be two different things. The two were fair comparison's.

It matters not what excuses are made to stop any of them, be it lack of funding, along with a time expiry date to get the roads closed, overstretched police resources, knife & gun crime, assaults, drug taking and drunken behaviour.

All these excuses theoretically constitutes a ban, just as it would if I told you, you a perfectly welcome to drive down my 'Private Road' but it will cost you 10,000 for the privilege.

Any of these excuses could be used to end any of these three events, but it would seem that the only one that would be likely to have anything put in it's way, was as in this case the St Georges parade. Now why am I not suprised?

Trevor Collins of the Stone Cross Saint George Association, says "It doesn't matter if you're black, white, green, brown or whatever, everyone's welcome".

But Ethel they can't force them to attend, and quite right too.

I'd love to see what would happen if they tried to stop the St Patrick's Day parades in the USA.
Where has Ethel been rude to you?

All she has done is ask a question - which is pretty fair since you implied in your original question that the march was banned.

I love how you think other people are rude and get annoyed with them - would you like to look at some of your previous posts and then comment on rudeness?
Oh come on, AOG. That's desperate.

If I pay for you to go water-skiing every week and then deicde to use my money for something else, have I banned you from water-skiing?

These insights into the way your mind works are fascinating though. And they do explain a lot.
The Government has withdrawn from giving Channel 4 14million state funding.

Does this mean the Government has banned channel 4?
