I would like to get my upper ear pierced, but i've heard that if you get it done in a certain ear, its symbolic of being gay (in London anyway). Anyone know which ear it is?
Someone told my brother and my nephew the same thing about having chains hanging from your jeans, in the skater style. I'd had those chains for years and never heard such a thing, and I never have about ear piercing either. I reckon go ahead and get whatever you want pierced and don't worry about what others might read into it. If you're confident in your sexuality, whatever that may be, you shouldn't care.
well i have my upper left ear pierced and i am not gay! some people are just narrow minded ********* who think if they wouldnt do it, it has to be gay!
left side for straight - think its a london thing... tho they are quite annoying piercings as they dig into your ear and head when you lie down - plus mine kept getting infected
here in australia we have the same thing with ear piercing any where on the ear if u are NOT gay you will get the left side pierced if u ARE gay u get it done in the right ear, take a look at elton johns... he is gay
Same thing when I was at school. If you had just the right ear pierced it was supposed to be 'gay'. The left ear on it's own was fine. You could also have the left ear pierced twice and the right ear once and not be called 'gay'.
Of course you realise as you get older that this is all complete cr*p....but if you are young and feel the need to fit in with the crown....go for the left.
Besides the 'being gay' I have had over 15 peircings and this is the one I have the most trouble and pain with in both ears. I have had it done 8 years now and It still bothers me. As any other piercing it can go very wrong. PLEASE make sure when you have it done that they use a needle - NOT A GUN
I'm in the US, and it's the same thing here...if a guy has just one ear pierced, and it's the right one, that's supposed to be a sign that he's gay. The way to remember it, according to my husband, is "left is left, and right is wrong."
It's not a London thing (not amongst adults anyway).
I can honestly say that London is only place in the world I have ever lived in that no-one cares what you've got pierced. I know straight men with their right ear or both ears pierced & gay men with just their left ear pierced. nicola_red is dead right - if you're choosing to express your individuality through piercings (as well as clothes, tattoos, etc) then it simply means what you want it to mean.
I don't know the answer to your question but please please please go to a qualified body piercer- who uses a needle not a gun. I've been left with cauliflower ear from having it done with a gun.
