I was disapointed to discover that a recent question of mine dated 5/10/08 and titled "Muslims angered yet again, has been removed from Answer Bank.
This could not be because of any racist or offensive remarks that I had made, so I can only assume it was removed because THECORBYLOON reported fagidill and Lucy Thomas for their answers.
I do not know what they said because the question had been removed before I could read it. But I find it most unfair of AB to remove a person's question because some posters have presumably contaminated a question with their answers.
The editor has made it very clear that the 'report this answer' facility will not be brought back. It has been questioned by several in the Suggestions topic, but Ed. remains steadfast in his decision. It is really stupid that whole questions are removed because people post unsuitable answers.
Repost your question AOG. Hopefully it will remain this time.
send an e-mail to the ED....he's a very nice chap....and let him know of your grievance.
Maybe he will put your question back, minus any offending answers.
:-)
Lucy Thomas posted a comment which referred to 'p*kis and darkies'.
Can't remember exactly what fagidill wrote, but it was along the lines of getting rid of all Muslims or something.
I'm fairly sure that TCL said he'd report the answers. Personally, I would've let them remain so people can see exactly what kind of people these two are.
Think yourself lucky AOG, I also had a question contaminated. It was removed along with my username and I'm still banned. So much for any consistency or fairness on here.
I think there is a case for a questioner removing an answer to his question if he thinks it derogitory or inflammatory that will enable answers to flow that are more relevent. Self censorship is what we need!
I don't agree rov1200. People would get rid of all answers they didn't agree with, or posters they didn't like and the whole site would get even more cliquey - we just need the old system back where people could report answers and give a reason for reporting. Sometimes this system was abused, but there is no fullproof system.
Perhaps the nearest we will get to 'foolproof' is if the Editor bans people who get out of line and prevents them returning - EVER! But even that would need a different form of registration procedure to prevent the undesirables from re-registering. Don't you agree Newsdesk?
In an ideal situation Lofty every question and answer would be vetted by a moderator. To do this more money, time and resources would be necessary. Moderator free websites are in the minority, we should all act responsibly so that it continues so by self editing would be an easy way out.
