Muslims good for the UK?
Can anyone tell me what good / positive things Muslims have done or do for the UK?

I do not remember him saying anything like that. If he did say that then did he take his medals to an Islamic country. As far as Frank Bruno is concerned, Just imagine if he did say that then he would have to say all about which section of Christian, Roman Catholic, Protestant, Church of England, Evangelical and so so so so so so so on. It would have taken him about ten minutes to complete the sentence. For Amir Khan it was quick. As you want to see him beaten now then all I can say that no one stays as a winner all the time, even the bests of the world do lose sometimes. In the end trust me I am not his fan any way.
In all fairness Keyplus90 I heard him say that after one of his fights and I will admit that it may have rubbed some anti Islamics up the wrong way but I think most people who respect differnt religions and cultures would have just seen it as an inocent remark as did I. Iam not Islamic but I defend your right to embrace it As anyone else from any other culture or creed.
No Islam is his way of life.....if, like him, you were living in a country where your religion and way of life were in the monority you yourself may be tempted to catagorise part of your life. The fact that you put so much emphasis on that part of the statment when he thanked everyone maybe due to the fact that you had issues about Islam before you heard him say it
I sincerely doubt there would have been a 'national outcry' if he'd have substituted 'Muslim' for 'Christian'. Naturally some bitterness among anti-Christians, but....
I'd also like to point out that 'Islam' (like 'Christianity') is quite a broad term. You can't seriously lump Shi'ites, Sunnis, Sikhs, Ibadis etc. together and cry 'AARRRGHH! ISLAM!'
In any case, people have been predicting the downfall of Britain since the 20s (and before that, probably). Is there any reason we should take merely the most recent claims any more seriously?
I'd also like to point out that 'Islam' (like 'Christianity') is quite a broad term. You can't seriously lump Shi'ites, Sunnis, Sikhs, Ibadis etc. together and cry 'AARRRGHH! ISLAM!'

Perhaps the greatest contribution Muslims have brought to the UK is a brand new outlet for the inane ramblings of racists.
It's easy to feel sorry for traditional racists because their outlets for hate have always been so limited.
They'd already laid the blame for society's (and their own) problems on the Jews, then the West Indians and Africans...now they have a brand new victim to spew their hatred against.
And even better - as Islam is a religion rather than a race, they can get away with pretending that their uneducated spite has nothing to do with race (although no-one is really fooled by this.

'people have been predicting the downfall of Britain since the 20s...' Eh? In what sense? Who's been predicting that - Muslims? Sounds like you're implying that's what Islam is aiming to achieve. And I have to admit they're doing a pretty good job so far. What a dismal place to live Britain is becoming thanks to Muslims. All these responses and not one with a convincing claim that Muslims are good for the UK.
However, I think you could say that they have:
1. Worked hard, opening their own businesses
2. Provided local shops in areas where the high street is dying (due to out-of-town supermarkets).
3. Re-introduced the idea of the family unit. You never see a knocked up Muslim girl smoking at a bus stop. Muslim grandparents are left to shiver in unheated flats - forgotten by their families.
4. They have opened restaurants all over the country which have saved us from the dreadful stodge we had to put up with in the 70s.
5. Because education is so important to Muslim families (just like Asian families) they tend to do better at school. The end product is a better educated workforce, which puts Britain on a better footing with it's rivals in world trade/development/science.

You always hear people saying the country's going to the dogs/falling apart blah blah blah. My point is that people have actually been saying that for ages and it has yet to happen. Why should we take the most recent sentiment any more seriously? This especially applies when you consider the lack of evidence.

The family values thing is a double-edged sword and not all it seems. Teenage Muslim girls DO get pregnant, usually within an arranged, or sometimes forced, marriage. That to me is no more acceptable than an indigenous girl having children when she's too young to have experienced life.
Muslim grandparents - well maybe less are "abandoned" for want of a better word but who looks after them? Housebound Muslim women, who are often discouraged from seeking employment or life independant of the home. That's great for the elderly person, not so great for the younger Muslim woman or society in general.
Education - I've always been led to believe that most of the Asian high-fliers are in fact of an Indian/Hindu origin and that something like 50% of Muslims are economically inactive in Britain. I may be wrong. But yes, the thousands of professional Muslims is a good thing and I'm sure that most of them have fine intentions and do benefit society.
But I still don't see how the Islamic religion rather t han individuals has benefited this country.

I am appalled at the attiudes of ignorant people who have used this site to voice their biggotted and racist opinions.Without Asian doctors (most of whom are Muslim) our national health service would have collapsed long ago.People,in their ignorance complain about Muslim culture in our society without a thought for the imput they deliver.Nowadays, people die on the waiting list for medical treatment............just imagine what it would be like with half the amount of doctors....as it would be without Muslims.Any racists out there.....be sure not to get on a waiting list if your ill......and please dont let a Muslim save your life!!!!

If the question is "What good / positive things has Islam" done for the country, then it's not possible to answer.
You're asking about the positive benefits of what is primarily a practiced belief rather than (say) a political or social movement (for instance, Thatcherism or Keynesian economics.
Religious doctrine and state affairs don't mix.
However, I suspect this is irrelevant to you as you simply don't like Musli9ms because you are demonstrably bigotted and even if a Muslim passer-by saved your entire family from a burning building, you'd probably accuse him of starting the fire.

The vast majority of "Indian" Restaurants in the UK (something like 90% + if I remember correctly) are run by Bangladeshis.
Bangladesh (formerly East Bengal, then East Pakistan) was set up upon the partition of India and that split was designed to keep the muslims apart from other religions.
As a result the vast majority of Bangladeshis both here and abroad are muslims, as are the owners and staff in the vast majority of "Indian" restaurants in the Uk.
