I wish there would be a vote to see whether England should leave the EU. For a start I think the Europe haters would lose AGAIN,as they did before and, perhaps,it would stop the Politicians and Newspapers from talking such nonsense about the EU. What do you think ?

there of course will not be a vote,

labour knows as does anyone with sense that the 'euro haters' as you put it would WIN EASILY,

all the 'sick men of europe', are joining the eu and dragging civilised countries down to their level if allowed,

we should quit and let them all fester together.
I think you're right brionon.

This pressure for a vote on a treaty/constitution/act that most people have no understanding of is a joke.

It's clearly a smokescreen for those like helpmetoo who have an irrational hatred of anything European and want to make trouble without having a vote on what they really want (which they know they'd lose).

Unfortunately though I don't think such a vote would shut up the little Englanders who are still pining for their lost blue passports that made them feel so important so it'd just be a waste of money.

Gorden will bully it through and it'll all be forgotten in a few months
I too hope there will be a vote. The vote before was not remotely comparable, we where voting for a "common market" Ie general cooperation and trade agreements, I think we all agree with that and it is not necessary to cede control of the nation to achieve it. So the newspapers don't agree with you then? oh dear could it be they are doing the public a service by pointing out the folly that is about to befall us?

Will you stop it with the "no one understands the issues" cobblers. The basic issues are well understood and even if knowledge is a little sketchy the campaigns for both sides would ensure an informed decision.

As I said in another thread, the powers that be know that if there was a vote the "euro haters" would romp it, that's why their won't be a vote.

stand by to be called a "liitle Englander" Helpmetoo, that's the name for people that prefer not to be governed by a corrupt foriegn power.
jake,

i dont have a hatred of all things european,

however i cant think of anything i like much either, certainly not enough that i am prepared to fork out left right and centre to fund the hoards of 'open palm tourists' turning up every day,

O P T out! vote now!
loosehead,

well put , a tad more eloquently than me but the point is the same,

i am not embarassed to be an englander, i think it used to be a nice country and still has potential, providing action is taken soon to correct this euronuts
Loosehead, a quick heads-up for you.

One of the probable outcomes of this EU Treaty is that it would make it far more difficult to operate a monopoly in the EU.

This directly threatens the interests of newspaper proprietors, such as (but not limited to) Rupert Murdoch.

If you think that the Sun and its ilk are taking a stand on behalf of their readers' wishes, you're very very gullible. Don't assume it in any way reflects the original will of the public (although some - like you - may well have gobbled up Murdoch's views wholesale).

helpmetoo, you're wrong. Because not only would every politician and newspaper outside of UKIP and the BNP not want to quit the EU (yes, even the Tories), but the public wouldn't be so stupid either.

Have you thought about the econimic repurcussions at all? Probably not. We'd be sent into a tailspin. We'd lose vast amoutns of trade from every country on earth, we'd be viewed as backward and xeonophobic rather than the cosmopolitan hub that we are, and our infrastructure would crumble when the unskilled foreign workers on which we depend ship out. But at least our sausages would be safe eh? JESUS CHRIST ALMIGHTY.
The EU has a great history of standing up to big business interests like Microsoft and a lot of them don't like it.

That's why there's so much anti-European junk in the tabloids to sway the easily led.

Europe had a population and GDP bigger than the US and they don't like the idea of another superpower either.

When did we last fight a war on the say so of the EU?

When did we last fight a war on the say so of the US?

The EU is way more beneficial to this country than our so called "special relationship" with the US has ever been!

Wake up and smell the coffe! you're being had by vested interests.

Divide and rule

And you're falling for it!

to the jake and quin double act,

in simple FACTUAL terms you may wish to list what you see as the benefits of membership of the eu ?

i will leave you enough space

One word used by a poster above says it all about Europhobes: "foreign".

It's "over there", "another country", "not British".

I really do wonder how many EU haters would change their tune if the EC offices & European Parliament were based in the UK.

thanks del boy for the link

i rest my case

top of the list

'safer and cheaper flights'

is that the best 'benefit'?
try telling that to the air france concorde passengers,
cheaper flights? what for?
i personally dont care but what about the environmental implications of cheap air travel?

The EU has banned all those dodgy African & former Soviet airlines, which goes somewhat towards safety.

Cheaper flights have led to an increase in tourism, boosting the economies of several countries. The downside is the spread of Brits-on-the-**** to bewildered countries like Estonia, Poland & the Czech Republic.

From today's Daily Telegraph:

Terrorists and organized crime gangs have exploited the expansion of the EU and left police trailing said Sir Ian Blair.

He said most of the organized crime, and a great deal of the terrorism in Britain, came from Europe.

He said British police chiefs had failed to wake up to the problem quickly enough and forces were still playing catch up across Europe.
Right VHG,

Ian Blair - weren't your lot screaming for his blood not long ago?

Now he says something you like and he's the voice of reason!!!

No, a referendum would be an expensive waste of tax payers money.

If we had one on this issue, which isn't about any constitutional change, it would undermine the political/parliamentary system we have. Soon we would be having referendums on the minutiae. We would all be too busy voting on issues for governing the country to get any work done, in fact some people would not have all their working day to spend on AB!
What has Europe done for us?

1. If we had a European defence policy then we would not have been dragged into Iraq by the yankis.

2. Instead of supplying nearly 8000 British troops in Afghanistan we would have supplied a fair share of 2000. The figure of 8000 is likely to increase as our soldiers come out of Iraq. And from whose bidding?

3. If we had joined the Euro our standard of living would be over 10% financially better off.

4. If the tories had their way we would withdraw from Europe and tie ourselves permanently to the USA and the Dollar. Therefore never vote for that lot.
