yes he is a pr!ck
The cost of the opening and closing ceremonies at the Olympic Winter Games this year in Turin is estimated to have been 28,500,000. Do you not think Prince Phillip has a point?
I actually like Prince Phillip, he say's what he thinks, and in this case, as corbyloon says, he has a point.
It's natural to want to celebrate the start and end of such an international event. Unfortunately the hosts always seem to fall back on expressing something or other (never too sure what) through the medium of dance. This is great if you're a drama student living in the host city but a little embarassing for the rest of us.

I think that the ceremonies for the World Cup / European Championships are worse as they're held right before the opening game. There's something bizarre about the world's greatest football teams twiddling their thumbs whilst a load of idiots in leotards flounce about on the pitch (or, even worse, Diana Ross takes a comedy penalty kick). Fortunately, football competitions have a much more glorious and natural conclusion than the Olympics.

So, in summary: yes.

I know what everyone is saying, but what has any of it got to do woith PP, apart from the fact that his daughter helps promote the Olympic cause.

In six years' time, if the Queen and the Duke are alive still, they will be involved in the Ceremonies to open and close the London Games, so the Duke has every right to make a comment about them.

The bu**ers seen more than I have...he's probably bored with em...(:-)fender 62..you miserable
git.(:-#).okay..who nicked me drink.....whoosh...>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

i do like PP.

and yes i think he does have a point. it's a huge waste of money...so far removed from the original idea of the Olympics.

Nobody i know watches it...and the bits i see just baffle me.

As james says...it's natural to want to celebrate...but surely they could find another way...that's a darn sight cheaper and that doesn't go on for hours!!!

I agree, Prince Philip does have a very good point. ;o}

I think prince filip is a monumental waste of time and money.
Philip with a P an only one L might be a waste of space in your eyes brionon...but everyone to their own eh?!
Who could care what this moron thinks, what we should be addressing is how to stop paying these pancrack wallahs millions of pounds of our money every year for doing **** all
I quite agree Kev, but just trying to be nice to his Majesty!!!!
I think he is just showing the irony in his sense of humour.
That is all.
smidge -I don't use the PH for F, I find it Silly.
Stupid phucker.

The modern Olympic Games are an obscene waste of money and a travesty of the Olympic ideal. Cut out all the nonsense of nations competing to "win" the games (with all the attendant backhanders) and run an all-amateur games restricted to the original track and field events within a permanent stadium in Greece.

But one moment, there wouldn't be opportunities for infrastructure companies to bleed us dry by building "olympic villages". And what would the "great and good" do with all the time they spend swanning around at public expense? Cynical? You bet!!!

Phil's right (as usual, although people don't like to admit it). Have a little celebratory opening by all means, but it all gets as tacky as the Eurovision, every host trying to outdo the last in terms of how much of a spectacle they can put on.

What's most important is the games themselves and the celebration of diversity as nations come together. The money would be better spent on supporting athletes worldwide and tighter drugs testing.
Agree, along with the event they accompany.
