I seem to remember a news story from the 70's of a native tribe that worshipped a picture of Prince Phillip. They regarded him to be a god.

Was this a hoax? If not, who were/are they and where do they live?

Do they still practice?

Prince Philip is considered a god among the Yaohnanen tribe of the island of Tanna in Vanuatu. According to the legends of the Prince Philip Movement, Philip is the human face of an ancestral spirit, and they wait for him to return to them.

You have to sympathise with anyone that is so hard up as to consider that piece of crap as a god
