Yes and was a super experience to fly in her. In the cockpit leaving Heathrow

Magnificent aircraft 😊

Question Author

You're a lucky woman, calmck. And yes, Lie-in King, magnificent is a good word.  Such a shame that it was retired.

I was lucky to have a short flight in her, it was a brilliant experience particularly when she went supersonic

I loved it. Bristol and French avionics a la creme.Even the Russkies tried their version. I would have loved a flight in her. Too late now. I doubt our greeny meanies would sanction a similar design. Just be happy to put this country back in the stoneage.

Looks a lot better than the one that's dumped by the hangers at LHR

Awesome piece of engineering - one of my regrets is never having had the chance to fly in one.

I can't think of a single other situation where we've taken a step backwards.

Do you think they'll try to make another one?

I hope I am wrong but if this is just another anti British rant I'll be very dissappointed.

..and yes I flew on Concord.

^ there is an E on the end

There is a Concorde at the Museum of Flight (not far from where I live) - I was lucky enough to win a trip on a Concorde over the Bay of Biscay - memorable experience ✈

Amazing spectacle!

So lucky for those who have flown in one!

My uncle worked on the design of it. He said that originally the powers that be didn't want to put windows in but eventually a compromise was met and small windows were incorporated.  The windows of that aircraft were quite small

It was a lovely aeroplane - I  couldn't understand why they scrapped  it.  When walking on Otley Chevin (high moor outcrop) it sometimes sailed over us from Leeds/Bradford airport and circled the Wharfe valley before heading off to wherever.  My Godmother was lucky enough to fly in it.

I've been on one (or rather the remains of one!) at Duxford.

Always thought it was magnificent to watch it going overhead.

Flew on Concorde twice. Outstanding experience. Acceleration at take off kept you back in your seats. Couldn't lean forward. Mach 2, flying close to space, night, looking above, day below.

Ok, that is pretty impressive!

And lucky you Milvus - twice wow!

It was ridiculously unbelievably loud.

I was one of the fire crew at RNAS Yeovilton on it's last flight back in 1976.  This was one of the first ones that was used for supersonic testing.  Never got to fly in her but did get to wash it down with a fire engine a few days after it landed.  Visited  the museum a couple of years ago and went on her to look around.  Very small and it must have been hard for the pilots to get in and out as not much room in that cockpit.
