there may be an ulterior motive - from the Grauniad...

'It has also been suggested that Lineker’s penchant for getting in hot water with his employer could help the presenter make his case against a £4.9m tax bill. Lineker is involved in a long-running legal case over whether he owes substantial back taxes relating to whether he should be classed as a freelance worker for the BBC and BT Sport for his work during the mid-2010s.

One legal expert has argued it might be helpful if Lineker were able to prove he was a true freelance worker who had control of his work life, unshackled by employer rules. However, Lineker’s brazen approach cannot continue indefinitely, others advise.'
Atheist, whichever way you look at it that was a horrible thing to say.
The impression I have is that some are suggesting Gary Lineker should have known that Suella Braverman's husband is Jewish.

I'm not aware of his being Jewish having been raised on here before so it might well be that Lineker did not know that either.
I don’t think it was said to upset Braverman. I think he’s just an ignoramus.
Braverman now playing the victim card.
So her husband is a jew it is not stopping her behaving like a NAZI.

gawd elp us, mastermind has stirred!
Lineker is just another left-wing anti-semite pretending not to be an anti-semite.And the left-wing anti-semites on this site wonder why Corbyn didnt win the last election.Thats right isnt it Atheist?
He didn't compare the policy to 1930s germany he compared the language in which it was presented to 1930s Germany

the deflection about her husband's ethnicity is reprehensible and typical... the fact that she's married to a jewish man does not mean she is beyond reproach

The thing about GL is he can afford to be a socialist!
Looks like Godwins Law doesnt apply if you are a left-wing fascist or anti-semite.
How does this mean Lineker is ant-semitic? It's the usual tactic - smear an opponent with a label rather than argue a case.

Amazing to see all the lefties squirming. If a Tort had said that they'd be pebble dashing their screens with organic peace porridge.
YNNAFYMMI, "Lineker is just another left-wing anti-semite pretending not to be an anti-semite."

What evidence do you have to support that claim?
TTT - // he compared what she is doing with 1930s Germany................ //

No, he didn't.

He said the language used was 'reminiscent of 1930's Germany' which is comparing language, not the proposed (nothing has been agreed or debated yet, much less passed into law) actions of the Home Secretary
TTT - // The thing about GL is he can afford to be a socialist! //

Socialism is a political ideology, and like all ideologies, it comes free of charge, so anyone can afford it if they wish.
Question Author
AH, referring to the language is implying the actions are being contemplated. That's the point.
TORATORATORA, why did he not say "actions" then, instead of "language"?
Question Author
AH: "Socialism is a political ideology, and like all ideologies, it comes free of charge, so anyone can afford it if they wish. " - come on Andy surely you can see the tough in cheekery there!
TTT - // AH, referring to the language is implying the actions are being contemplated. That's the point. //

Implication is a moveable feast at any time.

You can say that Mr Lineker was 'implying', he I am sure would disagree with you, and there is no proof either way.
