Sorry no link. Betty Boothroyd - first woman Speaker of the HC has died aged 93. I always admired her no nonsense straightforward approach to things and sense of humour. RIP

Sparkly - I never knew that. But I can imagine it :-)
No nonsense person, just the sort you need.

Well at least she has left a legacy, more than most of us achieve. Did her bit and can now Rest in Peace.
I agree with barry.
She was excellent. Kept everyone in order!
Very sad, an excellent speaker
Legend, RIP Betty.
Sadly followed by the worst 2 speakers in history.
She was an excellent choice for the job of Speaker, respected by most, if not all MPs. RIP Betty.
One of the finest. R.I.P Betty Boothroyd.
Very sad.

When you saw Speakers Martin and Bercow in action, you realised how good she was, and how the job is done properly.

RIP Betty.
Yes, a woman to respect, who was also downright 'nice'. R.I.P.
Yes a brilliant lady , wish we could have more speakers like she was .
She said her most precious possession was her portcullis brooch. She was good at what she did because she cared about parliament, it's history and responsibilities. I think in her own way she was a National Treasure. RIP
The best Speaker in our lifetime, by quite a chalk. A fine example of what a real parliamentarian looked like.
