//Last week, it emerged that the best-selling children’s books were being rewritten to remove language considered offensive.

The word “fat”, for example, had been cut from every book. Augustus Gloop in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is instead described as “enormous”.

Camilla gave an impassioned defence of free speech and the right of writers to express themselves at Clarence House on Thursday 23 February, just days after she let it be known privately that she had serious concerns over the changes to Dahl’s books.

Puffin has now issued a statement announcing that it will make both the original and censored versions available to readers.//

Well done, Camilla! A victory for common sense. I sincerely hope that every copy of the edited version is left to rot.

Queen, Queen Consort surely?
The queen in waiting surely. ( god knows she’s waited a long time ) :-)
Question Author
drmorgans, how did I know someone was going to say that? Psychic!! Apart from Elizabeth II every queen since Victoria has been a queen consort. but I can't recall any of them being referred to as such. Queen will do.
The Queen did something. Something then happened. Therefore, the Queen caused it to happen.

A very common perception, although not rally valid.
really.

//The queen in waiting surely.//

No. Monarchs become monarchs the moment their predecessor dies. They don't have to wait for the coronation.
As a lifelong Royalist I cringe everytime I see or hear Camilla referred to as Queen..$#$%^&*
I don't care what she is called when it comes to this issue - well done, Camilla....common sense at last.

Earplugs?
anne, "The queen in waiting surely. ( god knows she’s waited a long time ) :-) " - your ignorance is breathtaking She became the Queen and Charles became the King at the instant of the former monarch's passing.
thisoldbird: "As a lifelong Royalist I cringe everytime I see or hear Camilla referred to as Queen..$#$%^&* " - why? the wife of a King is a Queen. What's so troubling about that?
Why Thisoldbird? She has shown grace in all she does, and has come to be admired for her support of many charities without drawing unnecessary attention to herself.
‘Apart from Elizabeth II every queen since Victoria has been a queen consort’ That would include Camilla then.
drmorgans: "Queen, Queen Consort surely? " gawd there all about today! The Queen consort is always known as the Queen. eg The Queen mum was known as Queen Elizabeth the Queen mother.
Next up, no doubt, will be something like Enid Blyton's Famous Five or Ransome's Swallows & Amazons....how can we call Nancy and Peggy pirates or having Roger just about bullied around by the others?
Question Author
You left the rest out, zacs ...
Publishing company succeeds in getting free publicity by listening to comments by a woman.
"I don't care what she is called when it comes to this issue - well done, Camilla....common sense at last.'

spot on...

I wonder what Penguin/Puffin thought when they got my email and no doubt thousands of others telling them exactly what was thought of their embarrassing and pathetic woke views.
Well done, Camilla! I echo the O.P.. There has always been bowdlerisation of texts, but not to today's extent.
'Lamb's Tales' made Shakespeare accessible to even young children when they'd have struggles with full texts.
This current mania just destroys literature. An author friend had a script returned recently saying it was 'racist' - it had jars of food from different countries jostling and fighting for position on the shelves so they would be bought!
