Joe Lycett ( never heard of him before ) says he is going to burn 10k of his cash if David Beckham does not witthdraw from doing the advertising campaign for the Qutar government for the football world cup .

Should DB agree to this , even if he could ,or is JL promoting himself ?

Why would anyone change their mind on doing something because some unknown entity threatens to burn their cash?

Blokes barking if you ask me.
He said he'll give the 10k to charity if Beckham pulls out, otherwise shred it.

I'm not sure how shredding it achieves anything.

What would he do if Beckham said he would donate more than £10,000 from the Qatari money?
Is this like "I'll sqeam & squeam until I make myself thick"?
The money will go to charity if Beckham does stand down, shredded if he won't. if Joe Lycett wants to stand up for gay rights why shouldn't he, up to Beckham what he does but I'm surprised he took the role with the Qatar world cup being as contentious as it is.
''up to Beckham what he does''

Exactly but once again we have someone thinking they can 'blackmail' someone into doing what they want.

Shred it mate if you are that pig headed, 10K wont make a happeth of difference to most charities.
He could give the 10k to me - I'll burn it for him ;-)
Joe Lycett, he's the one that does the amusing emails isn't he?

Who knew there was so much money in typing, I need a new agent. :-)
My view is the World Cup should never have gone there, but we are where we are. You might not agree with Beckham doing this, but I don't approve either of the blackmail.
Give the money regardless, shame Beckham if you wish, publicise the cause.
Everyone is a winner.
Shredding the money is a poor thing to threaten.
Much as I adore Joe Lycett I'll be disappointed if he destroys the money. Too many folk are really struggling for many to support him doing that.
Fans are asking him to donate the money when his point is made.

Knowing Joe though he may have something up his sleeve.

A lot of charities would be SO grateful for that 10k, I can suggest a few to him if he would like ...
what a stoopid gesture - particularly when things are tight for so many.

What would be a better gesture than DB withdrawing would be for the England team refusing to play - IMO, that would put them up for team of the year in the BBC's sportsman of the year review.
Ridiculous.
I don't see the issue. Put the £10,000 into a bank account, and if the worse happens, write the cheque & shred it. Job done.
I'm sure Becks will be gutted if he is no longer considered a gay icon:-/
Reminds me of the Eton students burning £20 notes in front of the striking miners.

Arrogant rich with no compassion for the needy.

David Beckham , a gay icon ?

Who considered him as such ?
Question Author
Well I can't see DB agreeing to this bloke's demands - why would he

So let's hope the news media don't turn up at this 'shredding event ' to give him the ' look at me ' self publicity he is seeking
It's not blackmail.

It's making a point.

Sadly, Beckham would probably find it more difficult to back out now, because of this, even if he wanted to.

Anybody who takes money off the Qataris has to accept that their personal brand is going to be dented. It's a bit like the LIV golfers, too ... it's doing nothing to help the reputation of those paying the money, and everything to tarnish the reputation of those taking it.
Baz, Lycett considers Beckham a gay icon. As reported in the link provided by TCL.
