The latest opinion poll shows 57% of Brits would now vote to rejoin the EU if a second referendum was called . The shift in opinion is down to the economic consequences of Brexit and the present cost of living situation. The poll suggests the trend will continue, to rejoin the E.U.
And a second referendum has not been ruled out.

"If you want to know how bad Brexit is going, watch this BBC video which quotes information from the OBR and ONS amongst others.
"

Oh yes, the good old BBC. That last bastion of unbiased reporting, who are in some parts, financed by EU subsidies. How could I ever doubt them?
i think brexit has done a great deal of lasting damage to the uk’s economy… i voted against it at the time and after that i wanted a soft brexit to limit the damage… but it’s too late now. Imagine the national humiliation and division that would happen if we rejoined! the idea is a non-starter… it’s yesterday’s fight

the uk has made its bed and now has to lie in it… it’s going to take a long time to undo the damage but hopefully things will recover or level out….
Untitled,

The government might feel humiliated, not sure the people necessarily would. Think you're right that it would exacerbate divisions though.
Note that for Brexiteers, once data from the ONS or OBR (that they don’t like) is reported by the BBC, then that data is somehow tainted and can be ignored.
true jdavis but i also doubt it would inspire much confidence on the uk's economy if it kept changing its mind about major economic decisions.

i actually think a fair number of brexists would quite enjoy it if we rejoined... it would make their cause a fantasy again without having to deal with all the pesky unpleasant realities
Meanwhile in another example of the effects of Brexit ...

""An estimated 107,000 people took to the streets of France on Tuesday in protest against the growing economic crisis born out the energy crisis surrounding the war in Ukraine, and self-inflicted economic wounds such as years of lockdown restrictions which spurred rampant inflation, and failures by the government to perform maintenance on the country’s ageing nuclear power plants.""
Just a few days after the riots in France the Germans have a touch of post Brexit celebration. You must have seen it on the "news".

""BERLIN/DUESSELDORF, Oct 22 - Tens of thousands of protesters in six German cities gathered on Saturday to demand a more just distribution of government funds to deal with rising energy prices and living costs and a faster transition away from fossil fuels.

Protesters marched in Berlin, Duesseldorf, Hannover, Stuttgart, Dresden and Frankfurt-am-Main, holding signs bearing slogans on everything from lowering inflation to switching off nuclear power and more energy price subsidies for the poor."" Reuters.
that damn brexit eh togs!
Keen to get in on the Brexit bandwagon Spain has been having a typically half hearted attempt. It was however serious enough for the Foreign Office to issue a warning to British travellers. Must have missed the announcements made by our, compulsory publicly funded, main news provider today.

""The Foreign Office has issued a travel warning for Spain as protests are held over the country’s cost of living crisis. Thousands of Spanish residents have been taking part in demonstrations across the country calling for an increase in wages and pensions. The FCDO said there was “a risk of isolated incidents of unrest or violence”.""

Italy had a little go on the 16/10/2022. Again hardly reported here but in fairness it was more like a party than a protest. They spend so much time pretending to be annoyed that one never knows if they mean it. Just like our very own remainiacs.

"" As the energy crisis continues to bite in Italy, people from all walks of life have been staging protests across the country.

High school students took to the streets of Rome to stage a protest that converged on the Education Ministry. Pupils were demanding more investment in education after what they call two decades of budget cuts and the country recording the highest school dropout levels in the EU. They sent out a warning to the next government saying Italian schools must be upgraded to be of quality standards.

Later on Saturday, hundreds of people held a demonstration not far from the government building. The initiative was organized by a recently-formed anti-system movement called Sovereign and Popular Italy. At the demonstration, people urged the next executive to do more to shield families and companies from surging energy prices and to stop sending weapons to Ukraine and find ways to promote peace internationally.
Many other protests have been held in Italy in recent days. Earlier this week, operations were suspended for 24 hours at Genoa airport following a demonstration called by an energy plant's employees against plans to close their factory. Also Italy's largest trade union CGIL staged a big demonstration in Rome about a week ago demanding more protection for workers. A hot autumn of protests and strikes seems to have just started in the country""

Perhaps the above Countries are merely following the already established Brussels response. The "protests" did start in Belgium back in September ... not that you would know if you relied on the usual networks for information.

"" Protests are starting all across Europe due to rising energy costs, and this is probably just the tip of the iceberg as leaders all across Europe are warning that a total economic collapse may be imminent, as they prepare for massive social unrest in the weeks ahead.
Belgium Prime Minister Alexander De Croo is one of the latest leaders to sound the warning, as he stated in an interview with Bloomberg News:
A few weeks like this and the European economy will just go into a full stop. Recovering from that is going to be much more complicated than intervening in gas markets today.
The risk of that is de-industrialization and severe risk of fundamental social unrest.""

I honestly do not see any other choice than doing market interventions. We don’t get a second chance to prove as 450 million Europeans that we take things in our hands. What you are seeing today is a massive drainage of prosperity out of the European
Reuters 3 hours ago.

""FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Euro zone inflation surged past expectations yet again this month to hit a record high, pointing to further interest rate hikes from the European Central Bank as price pressures appear to be broadening. Consumer price growth in the 19 countries sharing the euro accelerated to 10.7% in October from 9.9% a month earlier, beating expectations in a Reuters poll for 10.2% as inflation in Germany, Italy and France all rose more than forecast, data from Eurostat, showed on Monday.
Energy prices continued to drive inflation but food and imported industrial goods all pushed prices sharply higher even as services played only a marginal role this time.
The ECB has raised rates a combined 200 basis points in the past three months and promised further tightening as soon as December.""

Ryzen @ 13 49 .I didn't say it Boris did ,........... egg on your face.
I think that what Boris meant is that before that could happen we would need to help along the destruction of the EUSSR. Coming along nicely then. The ponzi scheme is all but on the verge of collapse. Without us the Russian would have rolled across Ukraine and be heading for Brussels by now. The EUSSR is a busted flush.
14:18, BA right there.
Your cover is broken gully.
It’s a good thing that those Euro-zone countries suffering the problems that Togo has listed did not vote to leave the EU, otherwise they would very likely have a 5% (or more) loss to their economies to add to their woes (as has happened to the UK).
