'It's my right to have unprotected sex with anyone, anytime so don't judge me when I get some disease because it's all your fault' lisped a precious darling.

From the US Centre for Disease Control:

https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/monkeypox/transmission.html

Monkeypox can spread to anyone through close, personal, often skin-to-skin contact, including:

Direct contact with monkeypox rash, scabs, or body fluids from a person with monkeypox.

Touching objects, fabrics (clothing, bedding, or towels), and surfaces that have been used by someone with monkeypox.

Contact with respiratory secretions.

This direct contact can happen during intimate contact, including:

Oral, anal, and vaginal sex or touching the genitals (penis, testicles, labia, and vagina) or anus (butthole) of a person with monkeypox.

Hugging, massage, and kissing.

Prolonged face-to-face contact.

Touching fabrics and objects during sex that were used by a person with monkeypox and that have not been disinfected, such as bedding, towels, fetish gear, and sex toys.

A pregnant person can spread the virus to their fetus through the placenta.

Whether sexual contact is protected or unprotected is moot when considering the above.

People who say that this is a lifestyle risk - so is smoking, being fat and not taking exercise, excessive alcohol intake - there are multiple lifestyle choices that infer a degree of health risk.
This has been educational.
I know a lot more about this condition than before this thread.

Apart from passive smoking which has now been addressed, none of those things pose a health risk to anyone other than the person indulging. No one contracts obesity or alcoholism from anyone else and no one passes those health issues on to anyone else.

None of that explains why gay men are a special breed though, unless it's purely the damage done to their rigorous skincare regime.

gay men who are promiscuous tend to have far far more sex partners than straight people who are promiscuous

Beg pardon, my post at 09:45 was in reply to sp1814's "Whether sexual contact is protected or unprotected is moot when considering the above."

Moot schmoot, if were all the same and all in it together then there's no need for special treatment of a particular group, not even if they're proud.

The actual facts may emerge eventually though.
case in a child care worker ( works in a nursery / creche ) which is causing concern ( Land of the Free)

as for alcoholism causes no harm to anyone besides the alcoholic - what typical AB rubbish - oh well normal sunday on AB
//as for alcoholism causes no harm to anyone besides the alcoholic - what typical AB rubbish //

I can't see that anywhere. Who said it?
all contagious diseases have a behavioural element

= a contagious disease isnt contagious unless you catch it from someone. (God I despair of AB at some times, talk about pig ignorance masquerading as wisdom)

They are making really heavy weather over the vaccine - small pox ( Jestie and Jenner yeah? 1750 ) cross reacts, and is used.

so us olds are gonna be OK - routine small pox vacca stopped in 1967 I think
//so us olds are gonna be OK - routine small pox vacca stopped in 1967 I think//

You usually only got the vax if you were travelling abroad - so most who didn't go overseas before 67 won't be vaccinated.

We're not all in this together at this point. The reason that men who sleep with men need to be vaccinated now is because the disease is prevalent amongst this group.

You went on to say:

"None of that explains why gay men are a special breed though"

No - like sickle cell anaemia. Medical science hasn't discovered why certain conditions affect one group more than another - but is now the time for that investigation?

Finally you wrote:

"unless it's purely the damage done to their rigorous skincare regime."

How do you think that makes you come across?

So?

Also - sexual behaviour has never changed due to the prevalence of disease.
eventually monkey pox probably will spread outside of gay men if it is not contained… the disease broke out there first and is still among them… it has spread among gay/bi men because lf the number of sexual partners…

even straight people who sleep around do not tend to have as many sexual partners as gay/bi men… there is no evidence at all that wearing condoms can stop monkeypox…

we deal with the world as it is, not as we would like it… we can either sneer at homosexual men for getting much more sex than the rest of us and wag our finger in judgement, or we can do something… it really depends what your preferred outcome is. i would rather see monkeypox contained so getting them vaccinated seems like the best way to do that.
Very well put Untitled.

Let's contain the disease now.
SP, //So?//

Not with you. You compared this to smoking, alcoholism, obesity. I've explained why that comparison isn't valid so I'm at a loss to know what 'So?' means.

Untitled, // we can either sneer at homosexual men for getting much more sex than the rest of us//

Is that an achievement? I don't think so. Doubtless most of the rest of society could get just as much if they also chose to abandon their dignity and self respect.
nice spot of homophobia there naomi
That's not homophobia, untitled. It's the truth. And it applies across the board - male, female, gay, or straight.

It doesn’t matter if the health risk is to the individual or a group - there is no reason not to fund reasearch and treatment of the disease - same way we do with diseases caused by smoking, poor diet abd excessive alcohol consumption.

We can’t expect people to change their behaviours in the hope that resultant disease will be eradicated.

Also - as has been stated before. Promiscuity has been a fact of life since the pill was first made available.

And those carrying the monkeypox virus in its incubation phase (The incubation period is 3-17 days) will not have symptoms and may feel fine.

Also - dignity and self respect? That’s a judgement call and not something that I’ve noticed among the gay men I know. They seem to have plenty of dignity and self respect. Are you referring to people that you know?

It’s a bit of a blanket statement.
Untitled

Yep - you see it too.
~Untitled doesnt see anything.

You are both so wrapped up in one side of it you cant see the bigger picture.
