i would imagine more than 2000 want it, and actually i seems a bit of a shame there is n mechanism to do it (although it would be v hard to make stuff work when you've been stabbed in the back (front, sides, top, bottom) by so many people in your party.

I think many Tory MPs were goaded by the media and the opposition into thinking that Boris was toxic for the party when, in fact, he had much greater support amongst members and the public than their Westminster bubble allowed them to imagine.

They aren't the ones who have had to cover for him and unwittingly tell untruths on his behalf ovet the last 3 years.
It's like Corbyn all over again.
If they really want their party to crash and burn at the next election then that is the way to go about it.
When it comes to the membership of a political party being out of touch with the electorate it is plain Labour doesn't have a monopoly on that.

Johnson has gone from having the UK political world at his feet to being ousted after 60 resignations from his government,
All the things that tested him - Covid, Ukraine, should actually have been the making of him. At one time he was a hero who nearly died of the virus and he appeared statesman-like when the Ukraine war broke out and looked likely to push Partygate finally out of the news.
But he blew that chance - yet again. His own fault entirely.

I don't think Corbyn failed because of character flaws so much as the electorate being terrified of what he & McD would do if they ever got power!

The comparison with Corbyn comes from the Labour membership insiting he was the best thing since sliced bread despite stacks of evidence to the contrary :-)
He may have been unstuitable for office for entirely different reasons, but that's not really the point.

I would say how willingly you succumb, Ich, but truth is without Ukraine you wouldn't have had any praise for him at all so your opinions have really gone nowhere. Despite the remorseless pursuance of the merest smidgeon of potential criticism of every aspect of his life, and the unrelenting publicity of anything that could possibly be perceived to be 'wrong', nothing - absolute nothing - he did warranted him being stabbed in the back. There were other reasons for that, which for those too engrossed in the ultimate purpose to spot, or more likely, too disingenuous to acknowledge, will doubtless emerge sooner or later.

MPs and ministers don’t like being told to lie if it’s going to be proven wrong next week or tomorrow…. how would you feel if your boss asked you to go on national TV saying something you suspected to be wrong and then three days later it turned out you were right? And then he did it again and again and again…

What I think is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. What matters are the opinons of the people he's worked with for years. (As a matter of fact, in contrast to many Johnson-haters here and elsewhere I have often stood up for him in his handling of some of the Covid stuff)
The great thing about him is in good times he can exude a positive, feelgood air and there's no doubt he writes and tells a good speech. That was his great strength really, appearing to "get things done" in a slightly unconventional way, throwing off the stuffiness and disregarding "the rules". The trouble is you cannot really govern like that and our system is poorly equipped to deal with rogue operators as it happens.
If I was a Tory PM I'd have him in my cabinet as minister W/O portfolio for "Cheering People Up, Thinking up Projects" etc but I'd have him a million miles away from anything where honesty attention to detail were needed.
I hope for the sake of the Tories, and indeed generally, he doesn't become another embittered ex-PM like Ted Heath.
