Just to bring it home, we are in text message contact with friends in Kyiv armed reserve. Their unit just took out two Russian vehicles but tragically also what appears to be a civilian vehicle, despite the weekend-long curfew.

The Ukrainian tv Channel 24 is reporting that a column of 56 Russian tanks had been eliminated.
This might be true, given Ukraine’s very powerful anti-tank weaponry.
Allegedly they were bringing some of Kadyrov’s units from the north

I thought Putin would be mad to do this.
When I saw his speech last Monday though it was obvious it was coming.

Yes I thought, and plainly so did Russia, that the initial invasion would be much more effective than it’s been.
But that they’d never able to occupy the country.
It was madness on their part to think they could rock up in Kyiv having landed special units at Hostomel, a nearby military airbase, and take over the government. They couldn’t even hold onto the base, which has apparently changed hands several times.
They STILL as far as I know, do not control Ukraine’s air space
The longer Ukraine can hold out the worse for them.
And even if they do prevail militarily they will never subdue the country
