"But Health Secretary Sajid Javid said it had spread so widely the rules no longer had much purpose."

Just as our greatest living midget delivers another dose of pointless misery to her battle-weary citizens/victims.

No I think it is to show when the facts change
they change their minds

( JMKeynes for it was he: then went on: what do you do?)

I was comparing his stance with that of The First Miniature Of Brigadoon this very afternoon, Peter, not questioning the attention span of The Sadge.
There is no comparison between the two.
One was an exercise in catching water with a sieve and it’s right that it’s been cancelled: not before time.
The rest is to do with trying to limit social contact.
That also seems sensible was a precaution.
It’s very interesting to hear these debates in the HOC.
There is seems as if the “battle lines” are between the sensible folk on both traditional sides of the house and those who are having an understandable but mistimed strop about the PM.
I notice the BBC didn't give hospitalisation figures today on the news. Is it because they haven't gone up?

'Trying to limit social contact'?

Hundreds of children can go to school together but one fully vaccinated man who's done his 10 days can't go to work because his wife is now positive, to sit at a steering wheel, on his own and bothering no-one.
No more than three family groups at a table but within spitting distance of another three family groups and on and on, full of the joys and drink.

What could possibly go wrong?
Hmm.
If children can’t go to school the bloke who can’t spend all day driving to work (!) not harming anyone, may have to stay home to look after them instead.
One thing all these rules and regulations have is a degreee of inconsistency and anomaly.
Yes idea at the moment I think is that they be short lived to save more trouble later. The last thing we want is people off work not because they’re ill but because someone else worries they might be soon
dave50, Radio Scotland did give the hospitalisation figures today and they have gone up (in Scotland at least).
what battle lines? The Wee un was always going to the opposite of England, that's what she does.
Locking out the 11 countries didn’t work in keeping the Omicron variant out. It is now here with its feet firmly under the table, so continuing with the ban is utterly pointless
//Radio Scotland did give the hospitalisation figures today and they have gone up (in Scotland at least).//

The number in hospital in Scotland today is 541. That is the same as the day before yesterday, and the lowest since 29th August.
Well you should know by now Dougie, she is power mad ! Hope gordie is ok.
That's my worry, shirley. Partygate.
It's certainly worked Spice, Partygate is now well down the column.

Johnson is happy to condemn many to the scrapheap (jobs, cancer patients etc) to save his scalp. No surprises there I suppose.
Douglas, what would you have wanted the first minister of Scotland to say?

"I see now that my time as a politician has been wasted, herding cats and knitting fog type wasted, therefore I hereby announce that I'm off to join hubby somewhere warm and away from this nonsense."

Would do for starters, anne.
