She's surprisingly active for 95 - now is the time for her to take it a lot easier, bless her.

Poor Charlie. I hope he gets at least a few years. I really can't imagine life without her. I remember her coronation. I was 6!

It will take some getting used to. Especially the gender change of the National Anthem!
Out of iterwst Gully, what's a "benny"? Not a phrase I've heard before.
"Iterwst"?

I've not touched a drop ociffer.

"Interest"
She is the same age as my grandmother. My nanna still lives independently including making bread and apple pies. She has been told to rest. Her attitude is she'd rather continue doing what she wants.

Ok, she's not the queen. But she might as well be to me.

At that age every day is a gift, but it's a gift that they choose to use as they see fit.

throw a benny
Term from the mid 80's in North Western England to describe a person (m/f) with a short temper reacting with anger and/or insult with little to no patience due to provocation.

Background. Benny, a character from the improbably successful TV Show "Crossroads" was a man of a simple nature with a short temper.
graaaaandmother

my two grandmothers both died in 1928
I tried not to Mamya. I only implied it wasn't pleasant. :O)
benny took five years to change a washer

I know :-)

I agree with Barmaid really, if she wishes to rest up and let others take the load then fine but if the plan is to wrap her in cotton wool until the Junilee than I feel it's unfair.
We both said that when Prince Philip died, the Queen lost her real reason for living. She has been driving herself on willpower and duty - and it's taken its toll. I don't really think she'll last until the planned Jubilee - and I don't know if I hope she does. To do so will mean more mornings waking alone, countered by the work she has devoted herself to. An admirable woman.
Thank you Tony. I've never watched the soaps, but I'm aware of Benny the repair man. I guess the term never.made it dahn sowf.
It’s disrespectful ( it would appear ) to call the queen Betty ,but acceptable to call the future king Charlie ? Odd ,!!!

He went to look for a screwdriver when he was working in the garage and never came back ( I've had apprentices like Benny ).
I guess the term never.made it dahn sowf.

Maybe not, quite a common saying in my neck of the woods though.
Personally, I think she will remain Queen until the end of her life, but Charles will be on hand. She's still very astute. I have a very astute aunt of her age, and had another in Australia until last year, again in her mid Nineties.

Anne, I referred to the Prince of Wales as Charlie, but as a non-royalist, I have no issue with Betty either.
