We do watch the good dramas Ken. But other than that we find the BBC has fallen to the level of the ITV and other channels with stupid game shows, and reality TV. The choice during peak viewing hours is dire.

I just can’t understand why the BBC needs to pay persons working less than 20 hours a week anywhere near £250k - where no formal qualifications are required and the main skill required is to read an autocue.

If the BBC held an open day for applications offering a salary of £40k, there would be a queue around the block and I’d be willing to bet a number of those in the queue could out-perform the incumbent news presenters.

The BBC needs to offer me the job of DG (at less than £100k), and I’d save them shed loads of money.
You're joking Em, surely.
Line of Duty
The Serpent
Peaky Blinders
Bloodlands ...
I thought the presenters were qualified.
// The BBC is to move some of its key departments and staff outside London to make the corporation more reflective of the UK as a whole. //

not sure how moving staff will make the corporation more reflective - a woke metropolitan islingtonian living in salford is still a woke metropolitan islingtonian.
Ah, but then you'd need a new procurement officer to source the sheds to keep the cash in.
The there's security to guard it all, and what happens if the padlock keys get lost?

It's a minefield right enough.
Maybe rubbing up against something resembling real life will set them on the road to normality, mushroom.

There probably is some UK university offering a degree course in reading an autocue.
I assume they have a degree in journalism.

Not everyone is a natural reading autocue.
Question Author
What journalist skills do you need to read an autocue?
None I suppose but I doubt just anyone could land the job.
I have no particular view about Naga Munchetty, one way or t'other, but every time I see her name in print I recall how Mikey used to be besotted with her, especially her skin. Good guy!
Line of Duty i watch, but not the others.

I’m willing to bet that a fair number of those queuing around the block could – maybe the BBC could make a TV program of the selection process, and viewers could call in on premium rate phone-line to vote for their chosen news reader (on £40k/year).
HYMIE, have you sent your CV to the BBC yet?

Even if they only had to read an autocue, how would you cope with doing that and listening to the studio director in your ear at the same time?

What about the folk they interview, how would you cope with that?
i copied and pasted about GL - it included the amount in dollars
I once attended a couple of interviews for a position as photographer for my local newspaper. The only educational qualifications i have are 5 GCSEs (2 of them 'A' passes). Not enough, they said, i may have to write my own captions beneath the photographs and for that, i would need a minimum of 5 'A' Levels. Pretty sure anyone working for the BEEB would need a tad more.
Emmie; "I copied and pasted about GL..." The account you C&Pd from musy have been a couple of years old, then.
I am not making any claims for the virtues of particular people, but ill just say that there are certain jobs where making it look easy is part of the skill.

If Dan Walker really has been getting taxis then he shouldn’t be defensive about it. If that’s the only way to get him to work then it’s not a waste of anyone’s money.
i once worked for the BBC, horrible place, very regimented.
