agreed tiers are more trouble than there worth- too many complaints and to easy to say your confused or to travel to another area to go to a pub.
But if theres a big problem in a local area they can't ignore it and may have to do something's like shut schools and shops there, and do a blitz on testing and jabs, so long as its only happening in one or two areas
I must say I'm enjoying watching Michael O'Leary spitting blood instead of his customers, greedy little man getting some of his own medicine. :0)
Another surge in infections is to be expected when we start to come out of lockdown. It's not just me saying that (through using no more than a bit of common sense), it's also exactly what Chris Whitty told the Commons Science and Technology Select Committee earlier this month:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-56333192

What really matters though is the size (and duration) of that 'surge'. A temporary slight rise in infection figures probably shouldn't be of any great concern but the risk is that, if people get too complacent about things like maintaining social distancing, we could quickly get back to where we were at the height of the pandemic.

A Government adviser said earlier today that summer holidays abroad should be regarded as 'unlikely' this year
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-56467813
So it's clearly far too early for people to start thinking that the crisis is nearly over.
Far from it Chris but as I said earlier , my booked and paid for holiday from as long ago as last September, will just move till it's safe for us to travel , I accept that's the way it is now
I fear you will have a long wait Bobbie. As Chris has said we are far from things being safe. It will be a long haul.
I'll see how it pans out Apc, we're in no desperate rush :0)
Should we be getting in a lather in late summer about a disease that by then most will have been vaccinated against?
There will come a point where we have to accept that people will be catching the virus but not at the risk of overwhelming medical facilities.
Well said ich

He hasn't just told them the CSTSC either. its the reason they are staggering the lockdown release. They expect (or at least are prepared for) a rise in infections with each easing of restrictions. The hope/expectation is that there will be no more than a blip rise followed by a continued fall.
//ichkeria. Should we be getting in a lather in late summer about a disease that by then most will have been vaccinated against.//

It would be nice to think that our jabs would protect us from variants that are predicted.

I must admit I'm a born pessimist. If I think the worst, then I have the chance to be pleasantly surprised!

looks like some are pessimistic on our way forward, i too am keeping fingers crossed that the road map goes the way its been proposed.

i was as concerned abouts whats happening across Europe, so not just UK.
It will all depend on what the numbers say and what the lines on those graphs look like. I think there is a desire amongst everyone, government included, to bring this thing to an end, and I think that's what will happen this year.
// I must say I'm enjoying watching Michael O'Leary spitting blood instead of his customers, greedy little man getting some of his own medicine.//

I have to say I revelled at O'Leary squawking at events which involved paying out money and really crap things happening after
tomus I think it is E484 (variant of virus) that is showing vaccine escape

odd way of saying the vacca doesnt work as well against E484 as the previous lot

and if it means no forrin travel I wd agree: " no forrin travel"
