Jill Biden has been criticized for using her Doctorate title, which she earned in the field of education. Some have said that this should only be applied to those in the Medical and Scientific professions. The BBC's own style guide uses the title Dr to refer to doctors of medicine, scientific doctors and church ministers who hold doctorates, when relevant. What is the history of doctorates in other disciplines? Do you agree that those who have a Doctorate in say Education, Economics, Theology etc should call themselves Dr. I have no personal opinion either way.

This explains the stages to become professor...the academic equivalent of being a consultant.
I looked this up, because I remember my ex being a "reader", but I couldn't recall at what stage he had that title.

pasta, was he a Reader in Medicine?
Thanks, pasta, that's helpful x
PP, 'doctor' is not a protected title, but doctor of medicine is.
I said anyone can call themselves 'doctor' and that is true.
No Sqad ...his field of study was in Neuro psychology...specifically saccads or eye movements in infants. His original degree was in physics if I'm not mistaken.
But he refused to be seen as a psychologist. Rather a biologist.
I don't think he ever did any study in psychology.
Sqad, you cheeky devil! I'll have you know I've got CSE Grade 1 in chemistry as well as GCE "O" level.
I went to Secondary Modern school after failing my Eleven Plus and in the final year, decided wanted to attend the local Grammar school. They wouldn't allow me to take "A" level chemistry with the CSE and insisted I take a year out from my plans to do the more rigorous "O" level before the "A" level.
Sorry...that should have been neuroscience...not biology
To change the subject entirely, theprof, if you had to recommend any two textbooks in biochem written by one of the country's (and the world's) leading experts in the field, what would those textbooks be? :P
Thanks pasta.
Prof , just joshing lol
Biochemistry for Dummies ? :0)
I know Sqad lol

> We had one who er nominated himself and we didnt support him. He wasnt appointed

He was disappointed. Boom boom!
Khandro, you've found me out lol
Jim360, it depends on the understanding of the student. I'd recommend different books for someone about to enter uni from an undergraduate during the early years of their degree. Final year textbooks are also written for a different level of understanding of the subject.

Having said all that, you couldn't beat a textbook written be me! Excuse me while I try to squeeze my head through the doorway lol.

Theprof.... I thought that was what he was hinting at...
Trying to get you to identify yourself, theprof ... jokingly, I take it.
Many have tried on AB folks but only one ever got close as he had been involved with the catering in a university refectory and made an educated guess! Turned out he was right.
Which thread? Lol x
He actually got hold of my landline number and phoned me at home.
