It doesn't have to be exhaustive, at least to start with, but a framework could be useful in pandering to the worst excesses of the 7th century.

I don't need to admire anything about any religion, Naomi, to understand that the actions of some of it's followers do not mean that they are ALL willing to go around beheading people. Just as i understood that not ALL Catholics were IRA bombers and snipers, when serving 3 tours of Ulster.

I don't "admire" anything in particular about Islam. I don't particularly like religion and I do not support the oppressive Islamic theocracies found in e.g. Iran or Saudi Arabia.

I also think the way some people talk about Islam now is frightening. It is the language of persecution: blame a minority, insist that it cannot be compromised with, characterise them as an intrinsic, unreformable enemy of "us". Scare people with what "they" threaten to do to you. Convince enough people and they'll let you do anything. iluvmargie and Theland illustrate this quite well. It's a tactic as old as time and it still works.

I'd still be interested to see a response to Untitled's question. What happens when people turn against you and your bulldozer? It won't just be Muslims, it will be people of all faiths who will be wondering if they're next.

I'm not making excuses, all I'm stating is that a majority of Muslims are no more a danger than you and I. Extremists should be dealt with accordingly, but victimising all because of the few is wrong.

Naomi, i totally abhor everything the Islamic extremists are about. Those carrying out these atrocities are evil incarnate. Like many religions, they have warped and shaped their religious scriptures to meet their own ends.
However, to tar all Muslims with the same brush is, imho, wrong. And, while it is true that i haven't studied Islam nowhere near as much as you appear to have done, my comparison with NI is not borne of ignorance. The point i was attempting to make was; every terrorist may be Muslim, but not every Muslim is a terrorist. So why do some look upon them all as if they are.
