... or even the maximum, if that helps?
Pixie. We are a nation of immigrant; that’s part of our richness. In my ancestry, we are from Leipzig, Antrim, Scotland, Norfolk, Southern India, Devon, Essex; and that’s all I know about!

Naomi. I fear your imagination runs away with you. I was ‘educated’ over 50 years ago by several leaders of the women’s liberation movement in London. These strong, intelligent women have remained friends for over half a century. As to my imagined misogyny, well, that’s a very handy stick to beat any random man with, on the lines of ‘when did you stop beating your ...?’

It’s a shame you are so cross.

PMSL!
@07.22.But Alan that was then.Nowadays it is a different story. The population of Africa is over 1 billion. The majority of whom would love to come to Britain to live off the Welfare State. Are you suggesting we take all these people in?Madness.
Allen, //I was ‘educated’ over 50 years ago by several leaders of the women’s liberation movement in London.//

Ahhh … in that case I’m not surprised you put quotes around the word 'educated'. That explains your vitriol. People like that have a propensity to mess with the minds - but take heart. Most victims of their claptrap eventually get a grip and grow up so there’s hope for you yet.
Careful, Naomi, or you'll have Germaine Greer hot on your tail.
Or worse, Millie Tant.
//These strong, intelligent women have remained friends for over half a century.//

I'm not calling you a fibber, Allen, but I've only known a short time and have gone off you.
It's time to call on Donald T and ask him to build a wall down the middle of the English Channel. Leave the EU handle the Med influx.
Haha! If she talks similar baloney, Jackdaw, I’ll tell her the same! Got to laugh. :o)
Allen can you please answer Ynna @ 7.52 today.
He's not logged in yet LB, give the bloke a chance!
Allen, //Pixie. We are a nation of immigrant//

Not exactly. Our ancestors may be, but an immigrant is someone who moves here. If you are born here, you are a native.
jackdaw (PMSL) - can't comment on your inability to control your bladder. Try pads.
ladybirder (Allen can you please answer Ynna).

Nah, can't be Jim Royled.

I'll just wait patiently while all the Answerbank wing of the national front (or whatever they're calling themselves these days) gird up their loins for another day's lying and insulting. It's always good fun. If I didn't know better, I'd go to the zoo and rattle the bars to provoke a similarly measured response.

A
Can you be Jim Royaled to answer mine? What population do you think we can reasonably support here? I understand all the personal stories, etc. But just wondering if there is any point, Allen, at which you would say, we can't take more people?
Pixie, no. I'm unsure of your motives. Is this a genuine question, or are you just a trouble-maker, trying to add fuel to the fire of anti-immigration sentiment? I'm not sure.

A
Seems a fair question to me, allen
It's a genuine question. I understand the compassion of wanting to help people, but I also understand it's very expensive. All immigrants, whether they work or not, will need accommodation, NHS, and probably education and pensions for families and so on.
You can look at it short-term, and say it's great we have helped so many people... but you have to look at the economics in the long-term as well... to see what works. Preferably a balance between the two.
So, it's an actual question, we have about 67 million people here already, which we don't seem to be able to fully look after already. Is there a maximum population we can support? Is it infinite? Is there a number?
Everybody will be paid for by those who have worked and paid taxes for years. Even if they find jobs themselves.
I'm just interested if you have any Limit on what we can do, or if it just continues forever?
Thanks ff. I think so- just a practical question.
