This is exactly why I won't be travelling until this madness is over. Why are these eejits so desperate do visit another country? Now it's a field day for the travel companies who can charge what they like. This was always bound to happen.

Gosh, who told you that Gulliver?
I agree that it was very risky to plan holidays abroad but this is shambolic by the government
Dave we are not known for having the best weather up here and besides we have a lot of friends we would like to see again who live abroad, the other thing being, when people go on about having a Staycation. what about those that live in those beauty spots, they will be invaded and the virus could spread just as easy?
yes it was ich I do agree, when we booked to visit friends in Lanzarote, a lot of restrictions had been lifted and now they are back on again
ich // but this is shambolic by the government//
So what do you think the government should have done?
NJ that was an example...I have no kids or grandkids
gulliver don't put words in my mouth
oh and PS NJ both of my parents are dead.
“ ich // but this is shambolic by the government//
So what do you think the government should have done?”

It’s a knee jerk reaction I’m afraid: completely oblivious to people’s situations. Not a hint of nuance about it.
I’m my opinion they should have either done nothing or made more effort to look at regions of countries rather than just countries as a whole.
A lot of the increase in cases (not all I’m sure) is caused by increased testing.
In France for example the figures for IC cases remain stable.
I don't get why people want to go abroad this year either. Even if you manage to travel without disruption, it's not going to be the same experience anyway - everyone wandering around in masks etc.

People should just write this year off for foreign travel (i have), use a bit of imagination and do something different.
But France themselves are saying that they have a real increase in infections.
must be sun lovers, who like sitting on deck chairs or sand, roasting like sausages in the backing sun, and paying for over priced food and tat in markets...catching or spreading a virus is a....no biggie.
stuck on a metal tube with possibly infected passengers err worth it.
“ But France themselves are saying that they have a real increase in infections.”

They do, of course, hence all the fuss. But my opinion is that it’s not a crisis that warrants a draconian blanket quarantining
To my lasting shame I have to confess my utter ignorance in having had to google Aruba, as I'd never heard of the place.
Very popular with Dutch holidaymakers
Totally agree TTT.

Tomus, I feel the same as you.
I have seen the oil refinery, it stinks

apart from sitting in a metal tube, I do none of the rest, I would be bored sitting on a deck chair for hours, I would rather walk and explore,I never shop for 'tat' either, I have friends I would love to visit but unfortunately things have changed again and I hope we don't go but I have to let J2 make that decision

There's absolutely no point arguing back bobbi, those that don't do it are fixed in their assumptions about what people do abroad. And for those waiting for the Govt to announce it's OK to hug your grandchild you better be prepared for the long haul as they will be too terrified to announce that - fuelled by the public paranoia on media such as this one.
Fine for all the stay-at-home little Englanders but those of us who like to spread our wings a bit and live in a different culture from time to time this year has been a nightmare. We were intending to go to France in May, July and September - all OFF and no prospect of going for the foreseeable future. We feel totally cheated by this inept, make it as you go along, government.
Ah, Diddums, diddlydoo.
