Some people just cannot get on with mobile phones. Can't use them and / or don't want them.
By the way, you don't have to have a landline to get broadband.
I like my home phone.
haven't had one for years.
It's good to have the choice.

thank you both, i know i dont need a landline for broadband, but i begrudge paying bt linerental for a phone i never use
I have a basic mobile phone which I only use for texts. I prefer my landline for calls and the answerphone which I can use to ignore cold calls!
You can ditch the BT landline altogether, knock. If you live in a Virgin area you can get broadband without paying line rental.
You could opt for a 'mifi' set up where you get your wifi from a SIM card (£23 a month unlimited data from 3).

barry 1010,im with 3 mobile now, so may go down that route thanks
There are other suppliers of mifi :) Do your research. What sort of speeds do you get with your sim card at home?
I have a care call alarm system which only operates through my landline otherwise I would ditch it. Bloody expensive for what other use I get from it.
A lot of house alarms need a landline too

Can you? Then why does it keep showing up on my bill?
danny, have you actually cancelled the landline?

ignore my posts.
I use mine in equal measure to my mobile so I'm a keeper :0)
i always thought tht having a deal with no landline was more expensive (or at least not cheaper) Plus I have a genuine 60's Bakelite dial phone that I like!
I have a landline with Virgin Cable for the broadband. I do not know my landline number, and neither does anyone else. I do not have a phone plugged in.
When 5G properly arrives, I will probably go the tethering route.
Can you unplug the phone? Is that legit?
I have Virgin with landline...which I never use. I'd love to remove the physical phone
