This to avoid a second nationwide lockdown. Also possible travel beyond the M25 forbidden.

My daughter is due to visit in 2 weeks...and all I feel is despair and fear that I'll never see her.

I wouldn't worry Pasta. It won't happen. it's pure speculation. Can you imagine what that would do to the economy?
It's a fine balance between saving the economy and saving lives.
How pathetic. That's Boris out of the picture for the foreseeable future!

I wonder how many would actually "obey" now?
Even if it did happen, Boris knows its impossible to police, and I doubt many would take any notice.
I’m 51 and I wouldn’t ‘obey’. I’ve been working throughout and we have only just been ‘made’ to wear face coverings whilst on the actual shop floor (there’s a screen by the tills). Come September my kids will be back in school and college and bringing all sorts back into the house.
Boris went to a meeting. Someone suggested this. That's all. Something the media got hold of, so we could all get worried.
There are too many 'ifs' in this aren't there?

They mention a risk score for those aged 50-70, in which case, many fit and healthy people will not be affected.

Those who have underlying issues that put them at greater risk will no doubt already be taking extra care.
I really wish Sky et al would stop making stuff up out of maybe's might be's and ideas. Shielding was only EVER advice. If London get a bad spike then yes it may need to be isolated....nothing new there. I'd purely LOVE to know how the NHS are going to produce personalised profiles for ever 50 and over YO. Yes it might be good to start to include some 50YO in those ADVISED to shield if they have serious co morbidities but I think there is already advice about this. There is nothing new there.
there's nothing to obey. Shielding always was advice and not a rule
tell her to come now
or go down yourself
woofie // how the NHS are going to produce personalised profiles for ever 50 and over.
The same way they ascertained who should shield, information from GPs.
I have done everything according to 'the rules’ so far.
Waited for all the deadlines to expire, worn a mask etc.
This I would not follow if it came to pass, enough is enough. Common sense will be what I choose.
Please try not to despair Pasta. If you and your daughter are sensible there is no reason to stay apart any longer.
If long distance travel is involved I would take sandwiches, a flask and a bucket and park on the furthest spot in the services.
13.49 I really wish sky, I really wish the whole lot was taken off air, or one bulletin in a morning and one at night, I think the media are doing more damage to people than the virus, repeat repeat all day long, ifs, may be's, could, might.
There is so much speculation at the moment its terrifying people. Pubs to close if schools open, new lockdown restrictions, I cant read anymore of it. I'll just wait and see.
danny, my Gp record is pretty much empty apart from allergy info and I am well over 50! The last time I saw a GP was 4 maybe 5 years ago now when I had a really bad post viral cough. He was a lovely bloke, looked at my record and said "Oh no! we seem to have lost your notes" he showed me the empty record and I said no that's right.....and I am a big girl! I suspect, from my time in the NHS, that that is not are rare as just me and a few others. People of all ages who should have shielded were (or should have been) contacted by their GP's last time. I am not sure what this mooted personalised asessment will do differently?
very sensible Maydup
Pasta, let's cut out the emotion here. You are over 50 and hence vulnerable although I know nothing of your medical history.
Your daughter could be carrying the virus but asymptomatic amf hence could transmit the virus to you.
Co19 is in no way under control and spikes and a second wave are inevitable.
It is your decision

Never heard anything so ridiculous. Are they going to close down all hospitals, supermarkets etc etc? Will have to if all over 50s have to stay at home.
Perhaps my 82 year old dad could do my shopping for me. I’m 50.

What a load of rubbish.
