Morning APG, I wish they’d change the wording for Mandatory to Compulsory because clearly some up here aren’t taking the mandatory bit serious and the bus drivers aren’t bothered , who can blame them though? It’s not their job to police who’s wearing a mask or not
Morning Bobbi, I ventured out for the first time to Sainsbury's yesterday just to pick up the click and collect. No one had masks even the guy bringing out the shopping.
I've been to a few garden centres where there were a lot of older people who should be taking care and putting a mask on and most weren't -not only that though but they were looking at me as if I was a moron for wearing one - they couldn't see me sticking my tongue out at them though ! :-))
I remain confused by PeterPedant's "good evidence they don't work" claim. At most, the benefits of wearing a mask are hazy and ill-defined, but that isn't the same thing.
Should be wearing them in shops and public transport .
Chilldoubt // But should you develop symptoms, as you’re adamantly vehement about wearing one,//

Do you mean adamantly vehement about NOT wearing one?
Aside from the people claiming medical reasons for not wearing a mask- I feel the remainder seem to be more concerned on ‘how it looks’ ....Surely vanity versus virus is not a sound strategy?
Face masks do not prevent you getting Coronavirus, they protect other people from getting it from you.
Danny - Two people ( one wearing a face covering one not) are passing a person who is not wearing a face covering. This person , who is in the infectious stage of covid , lets out a huge sneeze. Are you suggesting that both the uncovered person and the covered person have the same chance of catching the covid virus from them? Because I don't agree, I don't care what the government says as they've changed their minds so many times.
Face masks must offer 'some' protection either from catching it or spreading it. Just how much is debateable, but it's a no-brainer really. Wearing one can do no harm.
APG.Scientists have stated that even if you wear a mask droplets of the disease can still get to your nose or mouth.,especially if you touch the mask.I suppose that wearing a mask does givequote[some] protection but it is more for the protection of others.
are the scientists still sitting on the fence regarding contracting it through the eyes?
ael. there is still divided opinion among the scientists about that.
I’d like to see supermarket workers wearing masks. Or at least not go in to work if they’ve got a cough. There was a guy coughing all over the stuff he was stacking on the shelves.
I used to work in a factory making and packaging airline foods and we weren’t allowed in to work if we had even a sniffle. This was years ago, long before this virus.
//Face masks must offer 'some' protection either from catching it or spreading it. //

they offer no protection to you. they offer a marginal benefit to others, if you happen to be asymptomatic.

if you have a beard, they are 100% ineffective.
Also, why can we pick up and put down things in the supermarket but in bookshops and clothes shops items have to be steamed or quarantined for three days?

To my mind there are still so many unknowns regarding transmission of Covid that the wearing of a home-made mask/face-covering is completely pointless and only for the seriously risk-averse. Do those same people refrain from crossing the road in case they get run over while doing so? I doubt it.
// only for the seriously risk-averse. //

No. they won't protect YOU. there is marginal evidence that they could protect others from you.
so "some" experts think we should. I am not sure how it would work in pubs and restaurants? I'd be really interested to know what percentage of the pupulation are asymptomatic shedders at any one time as these are the only people who would make a difference by wearing masks.
