What’s wrong with writing proper English ( there’s another ,proppa) , I see this time and again on FaceBook , text abbreviation speak , all thats need is another letter

It's horrible to see people using "gud" instead of "good" or "ur" instead of "your / you're" in writing these days.

It's part laziness and part poor education.

Children in this country receive a free education but the standard of spelling overall is quite poor among the younger generations.

No, they truly cannot spell.
From what I've seen on various "discussion" boards, neither can their predecessors. Never mind grammar.

It is not poor grammar or laziness. It is jargon. It is a way of indicating your age and the group you want to be in.
A bit like TTT inflicting Rhyming Slang on us. It does not help communication (often it hinders it) but the writing style they adopt instantly tells you a lot about them. Whilst that my put you off, to others of a similar ilk, it means you are part of that gang.

I can quite understand folk typing 'OMG' and 'LOL' because it saves time and space. But then they actually say 'OMG' and 'LOL' in conversation. What The Funicular?

writing with one finger on a phone is slow and apt to produce typos. Why not use abbreviations?

Then you are a gang. You probably are of a similar age and geography. It is unlikely a teenager from Newcastle will want to join that tribe. Just like you don’t want to belong to the text speech tribe.
But to dismiss a tribe you are not in as stupid, kind of misses the point.

ardo-complete ( the false american brogue drives me crazy too) has the abbreviations UR which are upper in the list of choices before you're or you are

frame linguistics babies - it is suitable for medium and conversation
which is why Trumps tweets are so unacceptable
a president shouldnt be tweeting ( he should be writing on parchment or something ) and he shouldnt be saying the things he tweets ( overton window) like confederate generals who fought for slavery as 'heroes'
