To be pedantic, it won't be mandatory to wear 'masks' (as in the title of your post) but only to wear 'face coverings'. The official advice has always been (and, as far as I know, still is) that purpose-made face masks should only be worn by those who're in contact with people who're displaying Covid-19 symptoms or by certain other health professionals. If...

Making my own, washable to match my outfits
We have masks, the disposable ones, I went shopping today, had to use the bus and wore a mask. There were only two passengers on them.
I have bought some patterned cotton ones for the odd occasion I may have to leave home.
I think a scarf would be my preference Bobbi. I'll have to practice with it before the day. I have a friend who is dreading ever to have to wear one as well because not only will she feel the same as me, but also worries about her glasses steaming up too.
// But why wait till mid June, why not now ?//
not of course wishing to pick holes in a seamless logical arguement BUT
because there is no good evidence that it works

EVEN at the end of the covid prog - a cabinet minister squeezed in - and t"the evidence for masks is - - poor"
non existent that is !
and we had - sorry I do go on about an evidence base, or lack of one here - it is something to do with being a scientist I think , Prof Trishuh Greenhalgh saying "well it stands to reason innit" said she in an essex brogue, " in Germany the rates went down after they started wearing masks so the same iwll happen here"

Hi Trish if any student in final MB said - "I did this and the patient was better after so it must be because wot I done" - you would fail then wouldnt you for the screaming fallacy post hoc ergo propter hoc(*)?

(*) Boris uses Latin so why shouldnt I?
So where are we going to buy them from?
I can see a new toilet roll syndrome coming on again but unlike toilet rolls you can reuse a mask.
Think about it.
all together now
Correlation DOES NOT imply causation
amazon have got thousands of disposables....or do what I have done and buy cheap scarves...not that I intend to go anywhere near public transport
Now, I'll have to get some more thicker lashes mascara and some kohl eyeliner pencils.

Make the most of it. Remember that lovely photo of Princess Diana?
I'll gladdly wear a mask when i find the smackhead who tried to steal my bike and tell him not to do it again....
My local bus firm has already in place a seating system. Boarded today and counted the seats, 37. There were 11 available seats to sit on.
What use is a mask on an empty bus?

Why do we appear to be doing everything backwards? Only just starting to quarantine incomers, masks from mid-June?
It takes a lot of thinking time, Ken, especially when you're making it up as you go along.
If I had been venturing out I would have worn a face covering from the start if I was likely to be in close enough proximity to someone.
we have to wait and see how it works on Mars before we try it ourselves, Ken.
A lead in time is needed so proper notice can be given- posters/signs will be put up, people without them can be given personal reminders rather than being turned away, people have time to make them and also get used to wearing them properly. Maybe a week's notice would have been enough.
Also I don't think it's urgent. Could easily have been a week later. I partly share PPs view about their limitations although I think they are of limited benefit rather than of no use. Many wearers don't use them properly- I see lots with them under their chins, touching them regularly, taking them down to speak, not covering noses and ignoring social distancing when they wear them.
Hmmm...when will there be complaints that facial features can be hidden...blah...blah...blah.
I think I'd opt for a scarf also.
>Why do we appear to be doing everything backwards? Only just starting to quarantine incomers, masks from mid-June?

Well the science doesn't really justify either measure so I wouldn't worry about the delays
//If I had been venturing out I would have worn a face covering from the start//
why?
It hasnt affected me or thousands of others...
Why you?
Or hundreds of millions others?
I personally would have worn one if in close proximity to someone else, like in a Taxi for example.

Not sure why I have to justify that, it's simply my choice - or would have been if I had to leave the house.
