I mean are we using the 5% rule? the Labour anyone over 70k except jezza rule? or what ever the lib non dem rule is.
Anyone know if the Banks have closed down ?.
I think they mean the world's wealthiest 10%. That means most of us in the UK, I suspect.
Anyway, when I heard this earlier today it sounded like a statement of the bleedin' obvious and I wondered what the point was of the research that went into it

that's everyone in UK FF, probably most of Yerp too.

I'm sure you'd PYSL- until it slowly dawned on you that...

>that's everyone in UK FF, probably most of Yerp too.

I said most of us because these calculations based on wealth are flawed. Someone on UC or state pension probably does come within or close to being in the top 10% but bizarrely those who live an affluent life style who maybe run their own business but have bank loans and negative equity can be counted as having negative wealth and among the world's poorest.
The Banks must be closed down "The Bankers " are working from home.
Well it does cost money to create a lot of pollution. Isn't that obvious?
//The researchers found that the richer people became, the more energy they typically use. And it was replicated across all countries.//

Seems a reasonable conclusion.

I think rich in this context refers to relative wealth. The problem with the report's conclusions though is that the suggested solutions are unlikely to work.
// Who are the "Rich"? //

The Rich are people who can afford to waste energy. Production of energy is primarily the cause of greenhouse gases which affect our climate.

People with less money will make different choices than those with lots of money. We all need to get fro A to B but our mode of transport is mostly governed by how much money we have. So people who cycle to work or take public transport because it is the best they can afford, will have a smaller carbon footprint that someone who is the sole occupant of a gas guzzling large car.

As said previously, it is so bleeding obvious, I am surprised that anyone is surprised by the conclusion.
And immigration for cheap labour, then cause problems for our public services.
Presumably those nations with the most wealth generating industries.

fiction-factory

Bang on.
FF, it's not the 10% of the world it's 10% in each country.

"The wealthiest tenth of people consume about 20 times more energy overall than the bottom ten, wherever they live."
Still bleedin' obvious.
Gromit; //So people who cycle to work or take public transport because it is the best they can afford, will have a smaller carbon footprint that someone who is the sole occupant of a gas guzzling large car.

"Gas - guzzling" cars have long gone, those that remain are in the hands of the poor, the rich are now using low-emission electric vehicles such as Teslas & their homes are run on the most efficient forms of heating systems.

Only a statement of the bleeding obvious if you accept that human activity is responsible for climate change at all though :o

Just a variation of Zipf's Law I suspect.

That is rubbish. I have never seen a Tesla on the road. What I do see are plenty of Range Rovers, £120,000+ which do 10MPG on urban streets.
