Rohingya people persecuted aided by the military.
doesn't seem right at all.
Her actions/inaction since she took up the reins of Governance certainly seem to be at odds with her proclamations when she was under house-arrest.

My disappointment pales in comparison with the betrayal the people of Myanmar must feel.
Question Author
she seems unwilling to help the people, in fact she seems to have had an active part in their removal.
The problem is that the military rule Myanmar and I don't think she has any control over them.
Question Author
they were the ones who imprisoned her all those years, now she is complicit. I do think she holds sway..
This is why I've never had any political heroes. They all have feet of clay.
when was she ever mighty? She spent most of her life under house arrest and she's under the thumb of the military now. She's about as powerful as the Queen - a figurehead, not a dictator
Question Author
she won the Nobel Peace Prize for heavens sake, that takes some doing.

how did this peace icon end up at a genocide trial?

Myanmar's leader Aung San Suu Kyi is appearing at the UN International Court of Justice (ICJ) to defend her country against accusations of genocide.

The Nobel Peace Prize laureate has heard allegations Myanmar committed atrocities against Muslim Rohingya.

Thousands of Rohingya were killed and more than 700,000 fled to neighbouring Bangladesh during an army crackdown in the Buddhist-majority country in 2017.

Myanmar has always insisted it was tackling an extremist threat.
a Nobel Peace Prize doesn't take any doing except being under house arrest. It's not as though she had to work at discovering DNA or writing novels.

She's as powerless now as she's ever been. If her position had any power they would never have given it to her.
// when was she ever mighty //

She was mighty in reputation, hence the prize. Now she isn't.
i think the military need a respected face, she became there puppet.
why she took that role, perhaps she thought she could make change from within, guess it did not work, now she's the fall guy, she never really left house arrest in a way..a patsy if you will.
// // when was she ever mighty // She was mighty in reputation, hence the prize.//

people have said of local honours - he doesnt deserve a knighthood, I know him!
why should it be different with international honours

has the Nobel ctee ever missed someone? ( yes Hoyle and Bell in physics)
have they ever got it wrong? (yes Robert Koch who deserved a prize but not for curing TB because erm he didnt)
Did they not understand what someone had done? Yes Einstein - he got one for the photoelectric effect because no one understood special relativity (*)

and so it is with the Great Liberator - she didnt liberate diddly squat, and enslaved a few instead (OK drove them into really crappy refugee camps but the same really).

and what did the Great Liberator's father do? anything?
He shot a village headman in 1946 in front of his British colonial masters, knowing the colonial ( er white, er Brit) officer would do nothing ( he didnt : probably under orders)
This had the effect which everyone knew of destroying any authority of the brits had, in the country around.
oh and the Sung Jee did very well out of it and the headman remained dead.

so really Aung Sang what goes around comes around

when the Rohingja were first massacred ( with we now know Aung Dang's full knowledge) she did her bowing and praying bit to the international busy bodies and said ina concerned tone - - "We must find out what is going on!"

and THEY said - you are head of state ( erm not quite) and so you are meant to know !!
(*) a Cambridge grad went up to Eddington ( very famous but very wrong physicist - he thought the temperature of the Earth was due to rotation)and said - only three people in the world understand Einstein's theories of Relativity.
Eddington ( played by David Tennant in the film, a jehovuz jin jab and conchie) replied - I am trying to think of who the third one is!
ter daaah !
// she won the Nobel Peace Prize for heavens sake, that takes some doing.//

absolutely right if your CV reads that you created 700 000 refugees all by yourself !
souns like the Schleswig Holstein question, PP. Only three people understood it, said Palmerston - one died, one went mad and I can never remember the answer.
Obama got the Nobel peace prize :-/
