This has been mentioned for years.

It would take a long time to implement. Think of all the spell checkers.
I think punctuation matters.

Theresa May, pole dancer.
There's a Maypole dancer.

What about the decline of the colon and semicolon? This is not a party political point, but I bet Boris doesn't misuse them, though I doubt Corbyn punctuates correctly.
Do you have examples of their written work?

Boris wrote:

“Lefties are fundamentally interested in coercion and control, and across British society you can see the huge progress they are now making in achieving their objectives: in the erosions of free speech and civil liberties that are taking place under this government, in the ever more elaborate regulation of the workplace, the bans on hunting, smacking, smoking, the demented rules about the numbers of children you may take in a swimming pool, the proposed plan to tag your car to see where you have been”

Corbyn wrote:

“I was first elected to Parliament 32 years ago, and I’ve spent that time in Parliament representing my constituency and standing up for rights and justice in Britain and all around the world. I believe that is the function of the Labour Party. But I also think that over the years we have lost our way. We’ve become cowed by powerful commercial interests, become frightened of the press, we’ve become frightened to stand up for what we absolutely believe in. I want a more equal society, I want a fairer society. I want a world at peace, not at war. I want the Labour Party to be the heart of the community that is demanding those things and demanding jobs, homes and hopes for everybody so that they can live in a society that is more equal. We’re moving in the wrong direction at the present time. Let’s turn it round and move the other way.”

Boris used a colon, Jezza didn't. I rest my case. Boris probably should have used a comma after "society" in the first sentence.
...and very few (on here as well) use hyphens properly, if at all.
thing is so many use I Pads, they text furiously, then get it wrong.
i wouldn't be too concerned if i were you..
One example of his using a colon in the last thirteen years?
Punctuation is important but AB isn't an English grammar course so people should stop getting hysterical about typos. Most people know the correct punctuation and grammar but also bash out a reply quickly, not always checking themselves, not expecting it to be marked by Emily Twinset.
Corbyn also used it correctly, by not using one where it wasn't needed.
No. It's proof positive than each generation is determined to be dumber than the last. Well either that or of falling teaching standards in schools; but that doesn't explain why apologists for such errors try to make a case.

As Boris might say, nullum magnum ingenium sine mixture dementia fuit. Mea culpa.
Hyphens can be important.
Consider the difference between extra-marital sex and extra marital sex.

Very droll four candles, or is it fork handles?
@TTT 11.40. There is a big difference between a typo (an accidental mistake) and not knowing how to spell, punctuate or construct a meaningful sentence in the first place.
The founder of the Apostrophe Society was òn radio a few days ago - more or less admitting defeat unfortunately. But he said the last straw was when he noticed a cafe owner writing coffee's on a board. So he very courageously and gently pointed this out to the man. And the man heard him out and said " well I'm sure you're right but I think it looks better this way". !!
Can't argue with that I suppose.
Meant to say courteously not courageously although that as well I suppose.
He should of realised he was on to a looser from the onset. :-)
