Well they didn't have to look very far did they.? It was hardly a APB and an International Dragnet. The CPS have decided a murder charge is appropriate. Then they have the facts and we don't. Not the first time a prisoner has died after a Taser has been deployed (or CS for that matter). We were not there at the time to make a call if the Taser should be deployed and if it was a violent struggle I doubt the accused officer would have had time to quiz the prisoner on his past medical history or allergies.No doubt the prosecutions evidence will tell more in time.

Should they be banned? They were introduced to replace a more lethal alternative. It's a compromise to protect the public and the officer.

I am not that techie to see how a Taser can be modified to achieve its purpose and reduce the charge it emits as well. The Chinese police use cattle trident prods on their demonstrators.

Yes you could well be wrong. If the prisoner is violent it is common practice to use handcuffs . They are a restraint and legal. Even shoplifters and Drink Drivers are now restrained using handcuffs. I will wait to read the trial evidence before I jump to conclusions.

There is no doubt that our police officers feel that little bit safer knowing they have the taser. There are, of course, some officers who absolutely do not want to use this method of nullifying danger and, yes, there may be a few who are quite 'trigger happy'. On the whole, however, i do believe our officers employ the taser sensibly and, more often than not, as a last resort - and nearly always after a warning is given. If i had a dodgy heart and i was threatened with a taser, i'd definitely make the policeman aware of my condition - before complying with any instruction given.

Common practice is indeed the use of handcuffs, but so is the use of physical restraint which can involve a forearm around the neck of the protagonist, which can in some circumstances lead to death, and I think it is to that that piggynose is referring.

Tasering is normally safe if the guidelines are adhered to. In this case they allegedly tasered 3 times which is not lawful. The guidelines indicate what can happen with multiple tasering, and sadly it is exactly what happened to Mr Aikinson.
