Ken - should have been piggynose, the originator of the thread - my apologies for the confusion.
I often see the defenders of criminals, when they don't like the restraint method used, saying 'he' should have used his Taser.
Your link does not work !! care to try again ?
But the point is that Tazers are designed to knock someone off their feet so that they can be arrested ! Anything that powerful must cause a few injuries ! The point is that a tazer is MUCH less likely to cause death or serious injury than a Gun !! Do you realise that one of the largest causes of accidental death in the USA is being shot by a police officer !
If any charge should have been made surely it should have been at the most manslaughter, but then we are dealing with a certain section of the community which makes all the difference.
Don't think being shot by the police would be considered accidental.
AOG - // … but then we are dealing with a certain section of the community which makes all the difference. //

What 'section' would that be?
// a certain section of the community which makes all the difference.
//

A man with poor mental health? How does that make a difference?

I think you'll find that it's not the gentleman's mental health that AOG is hinting at!!!
OG its not just the taser issue.....also I believe that the law says something to the effect that you can't deliberately do something that would be expected to lead to death and say that you didn't intend death.....but as has been said, the IOPC and the CPS have more of the facts than we do.
AOG,
Have you forgotten you posted this?

For the purpose of this OP it very much is the Taser issue
We were asked two simple questions with regards to Tasers. I have,to the best of my ability, attempted to address those questions.
I suppose I should of expected the usual trial by AB.
As well as choking, strangling and anything else not mentioned we could say the officers wore white hoods and lit their batons in the shape of a cross. Jeez. I'm out of here. I can wait for facts not trumped up fantasies.
Nice find, Gromit.
But I wonder what this thug had done for the police to use their tasers ?? Two sides to every story.
HereIam
He allegedly attempted to strangle his father.
We don't know all the information and there may be more to the situation that will come out in due course.

What I find unsettling is that it is now three years down the line and the Police Officers involved have been left in limbo for that period. Surely an investigation could be carried out in weeks or months,

In the end, it is a sad situation with no winners
As an alternative to a firearm I can see the argument in favour of them. For specialised armed police, then fine. But in most circumstances it's not used as a gun substitute but simply to make an arrest easier. As such I have concerns about their use. Training and the threat of a truncheon should be more than sufficient without electric shock becoming instinctive first use against citizens.
As retro says, we don't have the facts. But at face value I find it hard to believe somebody would use a Taser if they intended to kill somebody. By their nature, the devices are designed not to kill the victim. If murder was intended I would have thought a more lethal weapon would have been used. I notice the CPS has put forward an alternative charge of manslaughter.
O_G - I would prefer that the safety of our officers was the first consideration. They need some way to protect themselves whilst they are out protecting us.

Give them a taser - give them all tasers, I was surprised to discover that they don't all have a taser.

18 October 2018 (when the case went to the CPS)...

// This is an important and welcome referral. The Crown Prosecution Service must expedite their decision making process and be swift in any charging decisions that should follow.” //

It's taken 13 months.

Any one who has worked in mental health or having to deal persons on the street with mental health issues can tell you of the enormous strength these people summon when having an episode. Failure to take medication or,indeed, excess use of non prescribed drugs will render a Taser hit ineffective sometimes.
May be that is why it is alleged the officer ‘may’ have used one or two more shots. They have no other line of defence to fall back on.
It is well documented in the states whereby a suspect high on crack took multiple gun shots that should of killed an elephant instantly. This perp eventually bled to death after a protracted fire fight with about 20+ bullet wounds. Tasers affect in different ways depending on circumstances and the recipient.
